Jaynz - Sample Tests

Vance

Vice Admiral
In Memoriam
Okay, moving on from the color tests to try to get December's guide out while it's actually December. But I really need feedback on how things are going.

Right now I've rigged up the Saladin class (2245 version), for the guide. Please let me know what you think before I tackle the other ships...

I'd suggest increasing the scale of the front view you seem to have a lot of white space. Other than that its looking good :techman:

I noticed a couple of things from your PDF:

1: You opted for a much smaller crew size than either FJ 1975 Tech Manual or the Starcraft Productions Saladin/Hermes blueprints from 1981.

2: You list "embarked craft" as limited to travel pods and work bees; no shuttlecraft. Unlike the Starcraft plans, you seem to suggest that there is no "hangar deck".

What inspired your thinking on these topics?

Also: have you considered incorporating any aft or underside views in with your schematics?

That's based on the 'cage' numbers, given in dialog. (210 lives!) I decided on the same number of officer slots, but roughly half the crew. The assumption being that the ships, upon entering their Batch 3/4 versions, would finally have the equipment and gear to make the 400 crew versions make more sense.

I went from the Technical Manual, which had no hangar deck on the single-hulled ships. I know some people think this is bizzare, but we don't really have small capital ships with many 'embarked craft' today, so a dedicated hangar deck, all that the comes with it, didn't seem to make sense for such small ships. Remember, the Constitution's hangar deck is nearly half the secondary hull on her own. Where's that much space coming out of the saucer, and what gets left behind accordingly?

I had promised Steve Cole that the aft and ventral views would be saved for LFS, if that project ever gets off the ground...

What is LFS? Leanne's Fighting Ships for Star Fleet Battles?

Also, are you going to create TOS-style designs for the Travel Pod and Work Bee?

[Ed McMahon]That is correct, sir.[/Ed McMahon]

Yes and yes. I actually have old drawings of both around, but not sure where they are, so they'll have to be put into a future volume, unfortunately.

Updated with the entirety of the ship catalog I was shooting for for December. I'm not 100 percent happy with the guide, but I'll leave as-is for now unless someone hits me later with something.

Hermes Class
Ventral and Aft views added - still experimenting

Great work Vance.:techman: The ventral view looks good but you might want to resize the windows on the saucer rim. Your aft view looks good to.

Endeavor Class, based on SFPO design
Yeah, I know the caps are wrong, but I honestly think the stylized bussards work better with the design than the 'hatch-caps'. :)

Bloch Class Research Cruiser
Based on the USS Bakker from "Action of the Tiger"

Not really original.. it's a Nebula 'pre-converted' to TOS. This is basically my cleanup of it, but I would still have brought in the secondary hull some, made things a bit more 'snug' in order to look a bit better.

New Zealand Pearl
Basically a piece of leftover art I didn't want to throw out... so, a TOS transport ship.
