So, it was released today that Jay Cutler, starting QB for the Broncos, learned nearly two weeks ago that he has Type I Diabetes, meaning he needs daily insulin shots to survive.

Kind of scary - I hope he'll be ok, both in life and also able to continue playing football.

Well.....on the bright side Alex Smith isn't your quarterback.

and neither is Brian Griese or Jake Plummer.

Cutler's young, in good physical condition and is now aware of what he needs to do to manage his diabetes. I don't see that this will really slow him down much

Now that he knows about it.. get this..

The 6-foot-3 Cutler said he dropped from 238 pounds to 203 by season's end but is back up to 220 since beginning insulin injections after he was diagnosed last month.

He also said he lost about 20 yards and a lot of velocity on his tosses towards the end of the season.

Wow.

He should be okay, but other players who have type 1 diabetes can still play professional football, as Brett Stewart here in the NRL, as he was diagnosed with it when he was 14, and it hasn't effected him from being one of the leading fullbacks in the NRL. Had scored some amazing tries

And of course there's Bobby-the prick, but that's beside the point--Clarke who played hockey for a bazillion years. I remember him on an interview saying he use to munch down chocolate bars and orange juice in between periods to keep his sugars up. Interesting situation, and it's pretty cool to see these guys keep up a pro career with this condition.

Well it would kinda suck to have to give yourself daily injections but as far as medical issues go this one is manageable.
