Jason Momoa IS Conan the Barbarian!

He's too small to play Conan, IMO.

They need someone very masculine. That's why Arnold was so successful in the role. He was perfect for the role.

Momoa is nearly six and a half feet tall... he's hardly small. Besides, actors frequently gain or lose weight for roles.

Awful news. As much as I like the Ronan character, and the portrayal of the actor; he is nowehere near a decent representation or interpretation of Conan the Barbarian. This is just horrific casting; simply horrific news. Clearly whoever is behind this film has zero interest in presenting any form of fidelity to Howard's work and will simply be using the name "Conan" in hopes of gaining the ticket-fees procured by the legacy of the name. Simply horrific.

^^^ What's your point? :p

Seriously though, Momoa could be good, but I, too, think that he lacks the physical stature that Arnold had at his peak. The Rock might have been a better choice for this role.

As far as acting ability, though, I'm not entirely sure that Arnold was at the peak of his acting career when he did Conan, merely his physical career. Comparing the two's abilities probably shouldn't even be an issue, or fair, for that matter. IIRC, Arnold had only a basic understanding of English at the time.

From an acting standpoint, I think Momoa will do a serviceable job.

He doesn't exactly look like a Cimmerian, but whatever, Schwarzenegger didn't either.

Exactly, what's the problem here? They are mindless sword action movies.

Read the original novels.

I think you mean "read the original stories." Howard only wrote one Conan novel: "The Hour of the Dragon." The rest were short stories and novelettes.

However, I agree with the point you were making. It would be nice if a movie Conan acted like REH's character. And it would be thrilling to see Conan's world/age, as described by Howard, in a film.

Momoa was very good as Ronan; I can't picture him as Conan.

In some ways, Sorbo's Kull was closer to Conan's character than it was to REH's depiction of Kull.

I'll probably still check out the new Conan movie.

Oh right, I'm thinking of the compilations, which is how they're usually sold nowadays. PS, I've heard that Conan's dad will be played by...Mickey Roark! :bolian:

But who's Mom? Beyonce?
