Jar Jar Binks Actor Considered Suicide After 'Star Wars' Backlash

I hated JarJar (still do) but I am sorry that the backlash against that character led the actor to suicidal thoughts. That's a shame.

I saw Ahmed Best in person at Farmer's Market in Los Angeles. I wish I had told him how much I had enjoyed his performance.

It's not a new phenomenon, where some in the audience conflate character with actor. Add in the belief that actors make a lot of money, exemplified by high high movie ticket costs and everything else, and the nuts in the audience go into overdrive.

It's amazing that nobody who was in, you guessed it, a certain and arguably far worse 1978 Holiday Special, had gotten any barrage of death threats or anything as vile. Yes, the story was also bad. Yes, the original script was also heavily altered to add more comedy. Yes, someone had to have been on drugs with the Diahann Carroll-in-Itchy's-Hairdryer sequence, which also explains his nickname "Itchy"...

But that was 1978. School shootings weren't America's pastime back then either.
