Janeways Friends

Purdy Bear

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
If Janeway was alive and kicking now on our Earth, who would be her friends or who would she look up to?

Im thinking of:

Amelia Earhart
Florence Nightingale
Marie Curie
Odette Samson/Churchill
Violette Zarbo

Would she see Kate Mulgrew as one of her most trusted friends - the meeting of Janeway and Mulgrew - now that I would have loved to have seen.

I don't recognize the last two names on that list. Who were/are they?

Pshaw! You're just trying to beat me out for the job.

Actually, I doubt I could keep up with the woman.

I'd feel blessed if she even just nodded at me, as she ran out of her home and jumped in the car to go to her next top secret meeting at NASA, or the NSA, or the CIA, or the FBI, or the Secret Service.

Both were unfamiliar to me, also, but I neglected to look them up until now.

'Carve Her Name with Pride' is about a female SOE agent called Violette Szabo, it's based on a true story.

'Flames in the field' by Rita Kramer, a very good book about four SOE women in France.... Odette Samson (Churchill) is also a high profile example. Her life was saved because she lied and said she was related to Winston Churchill eventhough her husband was of no relation to the British PM. Picture of Andree Borrell, codename Denise.

A better snapshot of Odette's WWII experiences.

Am I quite not getting but is the supposition that Janeway could only make friends with holodeck characters or with the aid of a time machine?

Is she too good for real people, or do they just not like her?

Odette and Violette were both George Cross winners, who served with the SOE during the War.

I did say who were her friends and who where her mentors!

I think Janeway may well have friends who were pilots, or scientists and I also wonder if she would enjoy the simplicity of the Amish way of life.

I also wonder what job would she have, would she be in the Military or other services, or be a reporters in Military zones much like our UK reporter called Kate Addie. She was extremely famous here even with the joke being the army couldnt go in until Addie had arrived.

Mentors.

Yes to Amelia, Marie... and for good measure I'd throw in Kate....Hepburn. :)

I'd also add 19th cent Nellie Bly ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nellie_Bly) and 20th cent Margaret Bourke-White (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_Bourke-White) .

I doubt she'd be satisfied with the simple life of the Amish. Remember her complaints to Chak re: growing up in Indianna and "who wants to be mucking around in the mud when you could study quantum mechanics."
