Hollywood movie mogul James Cameron is coming to live in Wairarapa - and he is bringing his family with him.
The director of blockbuster films Titanic and Avatar has purchased two large plots of land along Western Lake Rd in south Wairarapa, where he is expected to arrive and live later this year.
Records released today from the Overseas Investment Office show that James F Cameron, of Canada, was given consent in December to purchase two separate properties, one 817 hectares and the other nearly 250 hectares.
The purchase price is listed as confidential.
Owners of the two properties were staying tight-lipped about the sales, citing confidentially agreements.
Bill Shaw, who along with wife Annette owned Pounui farm on the hillside overlooking Lake Onoke, said he had been ''sworn to secrecy''.
''But that's probably just going to flame the rumours isn't it,'' he said.
He wouldn't confirm Cameron as the new owner.

Nice to know the King of the World will just be down the road.

the warthogs they made for the love action Halo 3 commercials and the cancelled Halo movie are there, can someone please park one across the street from his new place til he breaks down and does the movie?

"Hollywood is dying" is not an exaggerated statement anymore. TV shows are made in Canada, lots and lots of films are made in (Eastern) Europe, and New Zealand turned out to be an excellent place to make movies.

Cameron confirms it:

After falling in love with New Zealand nearly two decades ago, Hollywood movie mogul James Cameron vowed to make the country his home.
Cameron paid $20 million for more than 1000 hectares of farmland in South Wairarapa after twice visiting the two properties on the western shores of Lake Onoke last year.
In a statement issued today through his Hollywood lawyer, Cameron said it was love at first sight.
"I fell in love with New Zealand on a visit in 1994, and vowed to live here someday.
"Now that dream is becoming a reality."
His family particularly enjoyed "the rugged landscape and the spirit of the people", and were looking forward to becoming resident on their new farm.
''I grew up working on my grandfather's farm in Canada and my wife Suzy's family own a farm in Oklahoma.
''We want to raise our kids with the values we had when we were growing up, close to the land and with a strong work ethic.
''We hope we will be accepted as good neighbours and good members of the community in South Wairarapa.''
