I loved his character on that show.

What a shame. I first knew him from the '80s Beauty and the Beast TV series, and of course I knew his superb voice as the Shredder on the original Ninja Turtles cartoon, Rhodey on Iron Man, Sir Bryant on The Legend of Prince Valiant (all three of which, oddly enough, later had Dorian Harewood take over the role from Avery, and at different times), and a number of others. I always thought he'd make an excellent Klingon, and he finally got to play one, General K'Vagh, in the final season of Star Trek: Enterprise.

According to StarTrek.com he was one of the finalists to play Worf.

He would have had to lose a lot of weight/build muscles up simultaneously in order to play Worf had he been selected, though.

I went to see my friend's cover band (they specifically performs '90s songs) last night. The first song they performed, as a tribute to James Avery, was the theme to The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Wish I had gotten a video recording of it.
