Hehe, yeah, I think I heard about this on one of the podcasts... Thompson is just insane. What I found funny was that he defended Mass Effect and offered to help EA. What the hell?
...wow. This is simply stunning. Does he really expect to be allowed back into the courtroom - as a lawyer anway - after pulling a stunt like this?
You know, you guys rip on Thompson but he's been on the money about video games since day one! Because of Pac-Man, I have an addiction to popping pills and eating fruit. Because of Tetris, I have an obsessive compulsive disorder to try to fit random things I find in life together. Because of Metroid and Sonic the Hedgehog, I like to roll up into a ball and go blazing down the street at 70 mph and destroy whatever's in my path!
Not to mention Super Mario. Thanks to that animal cruelty simulator, I now have a compulsive urge to jump on every turtle I see.
And eat wild mushrooms. I really wish someone would hit Jack Thompson in the head with a GTA box and show him the dammed rating on it. If parents let their kids buy/play an adult-rated game I say they get what they get. It's not Rockstar's or Rockstar's boss' fault that parents are stupid.
Is it too much to ask that during my lifetime (I turn 24 next Fri.) these idiots like Thompson "get it" and see that video games and movies are in the same arena: Not all of them are meant for kids!!
Prior to his career as a crusader against videogames, Thompson was involved in the anti-music trials of the 1980s. If he didn't get it then, I doubt there's any hope for him to get it now.
^ He seems like the kind of person that would want to protect kids by having all youth sporting events end in a tie no matter what, or cry out against sports where a game-ending loss can come down to one player because that would damage his or her psyche and self esteem.
Could be that along with "Holy" Joe Lieberman, Thompson just wants to ban everything that he personally doesn't like. (Since I brought up the anti-music stuff earlier, I wonder whatever became of Tipper Gore's PMRC...)
