Jack Reacher trailer - meh to the max

Shame that they didn't wait until Chris Hemsworth was a bigger star to make a Reacher movie. Had they started with the prequel novels while he was still in the army, Hemsworth would have been a pretty good match.

Yes, I had exactly the same impression, so whether the notes are an exact match or not, the impression is still there for at least a minority of viewers. I'm assuming it was a deliberate to create that musical echo, but IMO it's a big misstep as it created exactly the "looks more like Ethan Hunt stopped in a small town to take care of some business" vibe that Samurai8472 mentioned upthread.

I actually think it might be from some "Scientology is T3H AWESOME!!!!" video Cruise did a while back that had the same (or similar) music over it that played the same series of notes that sounded like the opening of a modernized M:I theme.

I remember that video. The Scientology video's variation on the theme is actually pretty good.

I don't think this one is identical to that, but both are IMO pretty clear variations on the same basic inspiration.
