Anyone else getting it and for what platform (360, PS3 or PC) ???

This will be only the 3rd Resident Evil game I have ever owned (Res 3 & Code Veronica) and the 1st one I have ever pre-ordered. I've been having a major Res year so far in 2009, I loved the demo for the 5th one and CO-OP mode got me right on board, plus I've been bashing through Res 4 on a friends Wii :p dam its fun.

I think we need to get some co-op nights going for Ressie 5 or as my friend likes to call it, Sheva 5 . Bring on the evil hordes am willing and waiting ;)

btw I ordered it for the 360 from Gamestation £30.00 pre-order price.

Pre-ordered it as well. Ive been a fan of the franchise since the very beginning, so theres no way I would miss out on the game.

I played the demo on 360, and I have to say I didn't like it all.

I should probably start by saying that I played the very first game on the original Playstation and loved it. I also played parts of two which were pretty good. I never really played part three myself. All I really remember about that one was my friend being really aggravated by the constant "Stars...Stars...Stars..." murmuring from Nemesis .

I thought Code Veronica was excellent and really harked back to some of the greatness of part one while adding its own flair and elements.

I recently tried part four which has been hyped beyond belief and found myself very disappointed. It doesn't really feel like RE to me anymore, plus it just seemed very drab and dreary (yes, it's survival horror, but some of the locations in part one or Veronice, for example, were exquisite).

Part five, again, for me brings with it the problem that it doesn't feel like RE that much. I also have to say that I'm not really comfortable with the fact that just about all the opponents have dark skin color. Something just feels unsettling about it, I felt. It feels like it's bordering on racism. I know people tend to be overly sensitive about these things, and maybe I am being overly sensitive. But all I can say is that it just didn't feel right to me.
Also, I don't like the fact that the opponents look THAT human. The zombies in previous parts always provided a degree of abstraction which made the horror and the killing seem less 'serious'. Yeah, the melt or something weird like that when they're killed. Still, again, this was something that didn't feel quite right to me.

I also have to say that I wasn't too impressed with the visuals. Everything, including the characters, seemed to have a very artificial look to it, I felt.

I don't get the whole rascit thing, In previous games it was just mainly all white zombies and no one cried out then. I do miss the zombies and feel future games should mix between this parasite thing and actual zombies...Would I be right in guessing Umbrella maybe found the original virus from one of these parasite things ? seem weird to just jump the franchise like this without some connecting element.

I've played 1,2,3,4 and Code Veronica but this one has me really excited maybe because of CO-OP.

I think one of the aspects is that those zombies were more like zombies than like people. And since they're dead (or un-dead), it's not surprising that they're unnaturally pale (like the life's gone out of them). I don't think the connection there is necessarily such that you could assume they all used to be white people.

In RE5, however, there's no doubt at all. The skin color is very clearly visible.

I think it might be a little different if the protagonist wasn't white. I know his side kick isn't white, but then she is just the sidekick.

I was very critical of the racism claims when they first came up and wasn't sure what to make of them. I still don't really know. Again, all I can say is that playing the demo was unsettling in ways that it shouldn't have been for my tastes.

I think the co-op is interesting, by the way. And it's good to see they've added this new element.

If it makes you feel better, you can get you white people killing fix in RE4, seeing as how that entire game takes place in Europe and everyone is in fact white ;) I think you're reading a bit too much into this whole racism thing. Sure, the zombies are black but the game takes place in Africa. A location that was chosen for certain plot related reasons. It really wouldn't make sense if the zombies were mostly white (that said, there are a couple of whtie zombie models in the game). It should also be mentioned that the enemies as of Resident Evil 4 are no longer zombies per-se. They are parasitically controlled individuals, who maintain the looks of actual people. How these parasites relate to the stuff mentioned in the earlier RE games is one of the secrets of RE5

As for the game not feeling like resident evil, I do agree that this is the case. At the same time though, the franchise needed to evolve and having played each game in the series, the changes made in RE4 were a pretty natural progression from the previous Resident Evil games and the devil may cry series (which at one point started out as a Resident Evil game). The fixed camera angles and tank like controls just wouldnt cut it in this day and age. It would be nice for the ammo to be toned down a bit and for there to be a little bit more exploration integrated in the game but I dont think its going to be a deal breaker

 I'll have to remember that.

I certainly might be reading too much into it, I'll admit that. But you know how sometimes there are things that just don't seem to feel quite right. And I just can't quite help myself here.

I can certainly see the logic on a plot level. But I'm not sure I'd be happy with a dark-skinned guy killing all the white guys in RE4 either. I think what would make a huge difference, for example, is if you had the Europe and the Africa setting in the same game.

Anyway, I'm assuming it's not meant to be racist (I don't really see a reason for it) and can see the story evolving in a way which explains why there's a shift to Africa. And, as you've said, if you go there, you'll inevitably get lots of people with dark skin color :-).

I'm aware of the parasite element. I still prefer the zombies, however, for reasons I mentioned earlier.

Hmm, I think that's a bit of a contradiction. I do agree that game franchises need to evolve over time. But I think they should be part of that franchise not just by name. If an RE game doesn't feel like an RE game anymore, I think it should probably called something else (naturally, making it an RE game helps sales figures ;-).

One of the problems I feel is that while they've changed and evolved some things, the game still feels almost as restrictive as the original. Your characters still can't jump and just sort of feels rather clunky and unwieldly, for example (not as bad as it used to but I still feels it's not up to par with other modern games).

I suppose in the end they've simply taken it in a direction I just don't find very attractive.

I just realised I should of done a poll, dam the limited editing features

If I recall correctly Degeneration explains many of the backstory elements of this game. The new company: Tri-Cell, the African Leader is mentioned a couple of times,
The G-Virus.

I can't wait for 5, even though I wasn't trilled with the demo (though I wasn't trilled with the Tales of Vesperia demo either but I loved the game).

Resident Evil 4 is one of my all time favorite games (and that's a pretty tall order, seeing as how I hate the other RE games). I'm looking forward to seeing if RE5 can recapture the RE4 magic.

For those of us living in the US and are near a Toys R Us be aware that you get a $20 gift card with purchase of the game on Friday and Saturday only.

I pre-ordered it tomorrow and I'm buying it at 8am tomorrow morning. Apparently there are some stores in the UK that are opening at midnight to sell the game, I've only ever heard of that happening twice, Resi 5 and World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King.

Me, being the idiot that I am pre-ordered the game in Buffalo, yet I'm going to be in NYC until Sunday. I hope they keep my pre-order :(

Capcom just released the PR confirming that versus mode will cost 5 dollars as DLC.

God, they don't even bother finishing games anymore do they? I wouldn't mind if the game cost 55 dollars and then you get to choose if you wanted to buy the versus mode... but a full price game where you need to pay for extra features? Yeesh.

Yeah, the down loadable content thing is getting out of hand. I always had a feeling that it was a bad idea and it seems that more often than not, im being proved correct. Capcom actually pulled something similar recently where they released extra costumes for street fighter 4 for 2 or 3 dolalrs a pop. I remember the days when such things were included in the games and you used to have to earn them. Oh wells :(

Well, people like Valve just give the stuff away for free. Most companies see it as extra revenue though. Yick.

I barely ever buy any DLC anymore, it's such a rip off and companies like Valve understand it's better to give away the content to build a community. Resident Evil 4 was one of my all time favorite games but I'm not spending $5 for online multiplayer.
