It's that time again- 2007 Psi Phi Awards approaching

Brendan Moody

It hardly seems possible to me, but another year in Trek literature is over, and now it's time to look back and decide what we think was the best of the best. Yes, the Psi Phi Awards are upon us again.

In weeks to come, I'll have more details on when and where to vote and all that fun stuff. For now, what I need from you is suggestions in the categories of Best New Character and Best Scene. I'll be using these suggestions to determine the nominees in those categories. You can make as many suggestions in each category as you like, though of course the more you make, the less each one matters overall. Ain't math grand?

Send these suggestions by e-mail to psiphi2006@gmail.com. (Yes, I know the year is off.) Have them in before Monday, February 25, please.

[I've already posted this message at Psi Phi; if there are other Trek literature sites or boards to which you'd like to copy the announcement, feel free.)

All right, I've done my civic duty by submitting my candidates.

For Best New Character (in no particular order):
*Tinh Hoc Phuong - The Good That Men Do
*T'Lana - Resistance, Q&A, Before Dishonor
*Thomas Halloway - "Met With Triumph and Disaster", The Sky's the Limit
(and just because I can...)
*Ambassador Deycen - The Insolence of Office
*Dr. Eusho Byxthar - The Insolence of Office

For Best Scene:
Trip and T'Pol reunited

Abetzur and Raya elMora barefoot and drunk

Introducing Dr. Carol Marcus

Picard and Hayes's final debate

^ Right there with you on the best scene from Its Hour Come Round. That was a classic.

The deadline for suggestions is fast approaching, and once again I've heard from less than five people this year. If you've got suggestions and haven't emailed me, now is the time to do so; your suggestion might well show up on the ballot. I meant to post more reminders along the way so, I'm moving the deadline back a day- instead of having them in by the beginning of Monday the 25th, have them in by the end of that day. That's about 38 hours from the time of this post. Thanks.

My nominations for best new character:

Sara Nave (Resistance)
Thomas Halloway (Meet with Triumph and Disaster(The Sky's the Limit))
Zelik Leybenzon (Q&A)

For best scene:

Chapter 18 of Q&A (multiple universe versions of the Enterprise)
Nechayev and Jellico betting on the fate of the human race (Before Dishonor)
Worf and Spot at the end of On the Spot (The Sky's the Limit)

(I'm not sure the spoilercode was really necessary, but I wanted to be on the safe side.)

If it is not too late: I am in the middle of writing my review of "A Burning House" and would like to mention one of my favourite scenes:

The good-bye scene between Rodek and Leskit.

As Bill said, that's a scene for the 2008 awards, but thank you. I was quite pleased with that scene. :)

Perhaps we should have an ongoing thread for 2008 scenes and new characters. That way, at the end of the year, most of the nominations will already be there.

Yeah, me to, because I tend to forget most of the stuff from the year before by the time the awards come around.

The deadline for suggestions has technically passed, but as it turns out I won't have time to deal with them for another couple days, so if you still haven't sent suggestions and want to, go right ahead.

Because so far there wasn`t any reaction by a moderator, I have repeated that suggestion in the questions and answers forum. I hope that will help.

As I just mentioned in the QSF thread, I don't know how I managed to miss the suggestion. I think it's a good idea, so anyone can start the thread and I'll pin it.

Any idea when the actual voting will start, Brendan? I'm not pressing, just curious. :)
