It's "Sisko" Dammit!

I've recently noticed this growing pandemic, not just here in the DS9 forum, but all around the TBBS of people misspelling The Sisko's name.

Normally I don't let such a thing bother me and when it was just the occasional incident here and there, I just ignored it. But, it's becoming increasingly more problematic. I'm now seeing one or two misspellings a day. It's starting to have that "fingernails on the chalkboard" effect and I can no longer tolerate it!

I think we need a sticky!!! :klingon: :klingon: :klingon:

Who's with me?

I'm one of those people who gets annoyed when names of characters are spelled wrong. I'm currently a big Battlestar Galactica fan and I'm constantly correcting people on the spellings of names; it's Ellen Tigh, not Helen Tigh! But I think you got me here. I don't think I've ever spelled out his name on this site, but in my head I spell it as Sisco, so I'm guessing it's spelled wrong in many other places because of me.

Thanks for the correction. :techman:

Agreed. It's especially bizarre when there are so many other characters with far weirder names that never get misspelled, but this one characters name is apparently impossible to spell correctly?

So say we all. It's not all that hard to spell, plus it was actually spelled out in big neon lights outside his father's restaurant. Learn it, spell it, love it. :)

It's probably because characters with weirder names force people look up the spelling. With Sisko given that many people have heard the name they believe they know the correct spelling and fire out whatever they feel like.

Or alternatively it a sign of the degrading standards the education system around the world.

Or both. And people are too lazy to look things up when they're sure of themselves. Now before anyone gets upset, I've been guilty of not looking things up myself sometimes.

A good crossover would feature Helen Tigh and Cisco facing off against the Mimbari and the Zindi. ;)

Is there any truth to the rumor that the UFP plans to rename that place in California San Fran-Sisko in his honor? (dodges an avalanche of rotten fruit)

Yet "Sisko" is but a Cajun a corruption of some formerly "proper" spelling of Francesco/Fransiscus, right?

There's something right about him marrying a lady named "Kasidy"...

Or is Francesco/Fransiscus a corruption of "the Sisko" given that he lives outside linear time.
