IT'S OFFICIAL - TFA is HIGHEST US Domestic Earner of ALL TIME!!!!

Really? That gut feeling that that ending gave me stuck with me for days. I thought the movie was amazing.

Fury Road, on the other hand... Two hours of shallow eye candy, no "zing" whatsoever.
Fury Road was the most overrated movie I saw last year. The action was great and the cinematography was amazing, but there was no story.

I think I liked Force Awakens better, even though both were really great movie going experiences.

Funny how no one yet mentioned how TFA's overseas boxoffice numbers were actually hurt by exchange rates.

In late December of 2009, Dollar to Euro exchange rate was 0.7, and in Dec 2015 it was 0.92. That's hardly negligible.

Still only seen in twice in theaters.
I only see movies in the theater once.

What people also need to consider is that the box office earnings for this type of film less than what it will earn from rentals, DVD sales, and licensed merchandise. While Avatar did great at the box office, I am not so sure about DVD sales (anecdotal, I don't know anybody who had it on DVD), and there were virtually no toys or other merchandise.

Avatar was, at its time, the most successful home video release of all time. It was also the most pirated movie in history.

Doesn't look like this one's going to surpass Avatar. Not a surprise.
It never looked like it would. For one, Star Wars isn't popular in Asia. It pretty much bombed in South Korea, where it ended up being only the 20th highest grosser of 2015. Avatar, on the other hand, was a monster there.

Not to mention that it supposedly received terrible reviews from Chinese critics, and the word of mouth in China was mostly negative.

Didn't do so well in India either, where Avatar outgrossed it 6:1.

I still don't get all the hype over Avatar. I saw it in 3D once at the theater and thought it was OK. I never had the desire to go see it again, nor to ever buy it on DVD or blu ray.

So it's pretty to look at. Woo-hoo, big flipping deal.

I know a lot of people who went to see Avatar just because they started feeling left out (or left behind). Many of them had no actual interest in the movie itself and just wanted to see what all the fuss was about.

Personally, I can say I saw it before it became a thing (*hipster glasses*). On Christmas day 2009.
And I did enjoy it, but I was far from blown away.

My friend only saw it because his mother got on his case and wouldn't let up. ( That used to happen with a lot of movies. )

That and the "I didn't want to miss out" kind of mentality.
