Italy to build bridge to Sicily

Ferraris and Lamborghinis aren't know for their reliability (which is the #1 thing I would want in a bridge) either. ;)

oh yeah.. I want to travel on a bridge built by Italian engineering. My Fiat will likely breakdown halfway across
anyway.

You really want me to bring up, Ferraris, Lamborginis, Roman Aquaducts, Arches, and other feats of Italian engineering?

Are you really using Ferrari and Lamborghini as examples of long-term reliability? ;)

Good points, was too consumed with the beauty aspect. Though, the old ones are better.

I read about it a while ago (or maybe it was on the Discovery Channel?). What I remember, though, is that the idea was to build a tunnel under the ocean to connect Siberia with Alaska. The reason was to allow Russia to export oil and natural gas to the US easier and cheaper than by using ships.

It would also potentially provide a rail route for container freight between the Far East and the Americas, which would have some pretty decent economic benefits, I believe rail freight is a lot cheaper than either ocean or air, and obviously a lot faster than ocean...

hmm..the same arguments were used against the Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco Bay bridge.. as well as just about every public works project made during times of recession and depression...Italian engineering actually is quite good compared to that of many nations. the technology exists for many kinds of bridges over that area.. (I remember when the Chunnel was being proposed and all the same arguments were brought up as well.)..anyway, if he can get the towers built, any government following will have to complete the project..

Yes it will be expensive, it will take time and it CAN be done using modern materials and methods.. and it's won't be the longest bridge in the world for long..

And there are many much longer auto bridges in the world today..
