The bridge from Alaska to Russia would be cool. Parts of the proposed construction are being used on a couple of Canadian built bridges right now.

Why on Earth would anybody want to connect the United States of America with Russia.
It'd be like proposing a direct none stop underground rail tunnel from Israel to Iran.

It's between Alaska and Siberia, they can trade ice.

They can compare houses.
I read about it a while ago (or maybe it was on the Discovery Channel?). What I remember, though, is that the idea was to build a tunnel under the ocean to connect Siberia with Alaska. The reason was to allow Russia to export oil and natural gas to the US easier and cheaper than by using ships. Why on Earth would anybody want to connect the United States of America with Russia.

There's already a 2km suspension bridge in Japan, a 3km one should be perfectly doable.

The Akashi-Kaikyo bridge required mind boggling technical efforts and perfection in construction though, and it also took more than a decade to build it - Italy could change governments a dozen times during construction given their track record, and any one of them could stop the project. "Perfectly doable" seems like an enormous understatement to me. And no offense, but I'd rather buy a Toyota 2km bridge than a Alfa Romeo 3km one.![]()
Wasn't one the big hurdles for Japan's bridge earthquake activity?
As far as I know, the major complaint about the bridge in Italy is that Sicily still has pretty shitty infrastructure in that area with little to no electricity or indoor plumbing.

oh yeah.. I want to travel on a bridge built by Italian engineering. My Fiat will likely breakdown halfway across
anyway.
