It seems as if Urban "Gets It"

The entire cast is wonderful. I'm so excited, really. The big question is Chris Pine. He's a bit of a mystery, and the role of Kirk is central. Natch.

Urban is, what? 40ish? I'm sure he grew up watching the reruns in the 70s down under. I bet he gets it too. terrific actor and I think he'll make a great Bones. Perhaps even as irascible as myself. ;p

According to IMDB.com he turns 36 in June.

His "Kiwi" accent isn't as strong as you might expect... it's actually pretty Socal-ized.

Agreed. Unfortunately, we Kiwis are appalling when it comes to retaining our accent overseas. Americans can come here and still speak the same after ten years. Put a Kiwi in California? They'll be assimilated in six months. It's rather pathetic, really.

Resistance ... is futile.
"DUDE, You will be Freakin' Assimilated! TOOOOTALLY!"

Looks like Karl Urban may be the Roberto Orci of the cast, as it were. This was the one casting decision I found most perplexing as the role I knew Urban for - Eomer - did not resemble Bones in the slightest, but this interview proves he knows how to talk about the character. Which is certainly a good sign, as it implies he knows how to act him, too. :)
I agree. It's worth looking at DeForest Kelley's earlier body of work, just to get some perspective.

He was normally the "bad guy" in westerns, after all...

I was thinking, by the heading that Urban gets it, like Mcoy is going to die in the movie, now I get it after reading the full thing, yeah Urban does understand the role he's playing I concur
