it isn't real..GEORGE

Shatner reminisced about one exchange he shared with Takei after learning the Sulu character would get his own ship. “I remember saying to him, ‘George, you’re going to be on another starship and all the action takes place on our starship; aren’t you going to be missing that?’” Shatner recalled. “He said, ‘Yes, but I’ll have my own starship.’ I didn’t want to remind him that this was fiction and not reality. I didn’t want to destroy his world.”

And this is where the so called 'shatner angry about Sulu getting his own ship' came from all those years ago. It was Takei who made it seemed as if Shatner didn't want him promoted...but now you can see what shatner was telling him...Getting his own ship in a fictional universe meant LESS time in the movie..and how much of Sulu do we see in STAR TREK 6?? Not much....

I'd love to see TAKEI go on Shatner's talk show, raw nerve, and settle this once and for all...its time..lets see if takei ducks shatner on this invitation..

Actually, no, that's got nothing to do with Takei's story about Shatner interfering with Sulu's "promotion." His story is about ST 2, not 6.

He (George) also once mentioned that when the TOS era scenes for GENERATIONS were to be filmed and they wanted him in them, he turned them down because the script called for Sulu to be at the helm of Enterprise B, with no explanation as to why he was there and not commanding the Excelsior (which he'd already been shown doing).

They invented Demora to take his place.

Personally, it does seem he has some basis for complaint.

I'm not saying anyone promised him the Sulu/Excelsior series would become a reality and then went back on their word, but there's still something to what he says about it all.

I thought Takei did a great job in TOS, but honestly I think he doesn't have the charisma to pull off a leading role in his own series... no disrespect. As long as I'm being a hater, might as well be equal opportunity, I didn't think Mulgrew was the best casting decision for Voyager.

At the time, I was a bit ambivalent. Now I really wish we had that non-existent series. Good, bad or indifferent, it had to be more of what TOS fans wanted, than what TOS fans got (and may be losing if the recently broadcast movie commercial is any indication?).

As to the original quotes, I find it odd that Shatner denigrates Takei's protection of his character. What did he think about Nimoy's known fierceness in protecting "Spock?" I'd ask what he thought about Shatner's protections of "Kirk," but we can all picture the answer from The Enemy Within... "I'M CAPTAIN KIRK!" *grin*

Not to suggest either have one foot in the grave, but wouldn't NOW be a great time to kiss and make up?

Er, for Takei....not literally, of course.

...I didn't think Mulgrew was the best casting decision for Voyager.

Mulgrew was brought in during an emergency.

They'd already begun filming the VOYAGER opener, and the actress who'd been cast to play Captain ELIZABETH (some sources say "Nicole") Janeway had it finally dawn on her how DEMANDING television work was...

After a day and a half, she QUIT.

Desperate, the guys at Paramount had to get a new Janeway IMMEDIATELY before filming got too far behind schedule....

And the Lady Mulgrew was it.

I'm inclined not to believe Shatner on this because he sabotaged the scene concerning Sulu's promotion. Even if he was protecting Takei, it was far too passive-aggressive a way to go about doing it.

That story has never rung true to me. At all. It's certainly uncorroborated.
