It has been calling me. Ever since I fist saw It I've lusted after It.

Craved It.

Wanted It.

Desired IT.

Between recent Economic Stimulus Package checks and Tax Returns and the fact I've got the spare cash I gave in and bought it.

I'm on vacation next week so it'll be a perfect time to take on the immense project.

I have bought THIS.

Frankly, I'm a little scared about taking on a project of this size.

But, hey, I need a new end-table anyway.

THIS is what I have to look forward to.

€549.99??? Are you fricking insane???

EDIT: Oh, I hadn't noticed Lego offered several prices for the same product...

Congrats. That's a thing of beauty that I'll never be able to afford. Enjoy the several days it will take to put that together.

I hope you get many hours of pleasure from your purchase.

The next already-available big LEGO set on my radar is the Motorized Walking AT-AT. That looks sweet.

A giant Millenium Falcon and a motorized AT-AT walker? :wtf:

My Inner-child is having a shit-fit because I can't afford either, don't have a place for them and stopped playing with Lego at age 12. :(

Wow, good luck. It looks like it took that guy two months just to build the freakin skeleton for that thing!! lol

Personally if I was going to spend that much time building a Falcon, I'd want to scratchbuild a film-accurate version. But this one still looks like it would be fun to put together.

First of all - I am very jealous. Actually, jealous would be an understatment. I've been drooling over that set since it was first announced. If my finances weren't so tight right now, i would have ordered it the first moment i was aware of it.

When I hear people talk about $500 being a lot for a Lego set, I can understand from a single purchase standpoint it is a lot. However, when you consider the number of pieces, it almost always averages to about 10 cents per pieces. I've been collecting legos for a long time, and if you take almost any 10 sets and divide the cost of the sets by the total number of pieces, it pretty much averages out. This set is over 5000 pieces, for 499.99 bucks, so really... its a bargain! :)

I've been drooling over it for a time too so I just bit the bullet and bought the damn thing. I need something to do next week anyway.

For that kind of money, the damn thing had better fly on it's own via radio control. Gotta hand it to George Lucas though; as what other lego kit (of anything) could find an actual buyer at that price? Lucas may be utterly and completely creatively bankrupt; but he's a marketing genius unparalelled.

I suspect Lego had more to do with the pricing than Lucas and as someone upthread noted the price per brickcount is pretty much on par. Keep in mind this thing has over 5000 pieces and is "in scale" to the minifigures. It's MASSIVE.

For example. I also recently got the Volkswagen Beetle kit. It cost $120 for 1626 pieces a per-brick price of 7 cents to the MF's 5195 pieces for $500 -a per-brick price of about 10 cents.

Now, granted, the Taj Mahal set is 5922 pieces for $300 (more pieces less price than the MF) coming to 5 cents per pieces.

But considering the MF (and by extension the Volkswagen) have to pay licensing rights I think it all comes out even.

For the scale, detail, and just pure awesomeness of this MF I think $500 is a bargain compared to the Master Replicas Model which costs $1900.

The taj mahal may be cheaper per piece, but if you look at the structure of it, a lot of the pieces are small plates to get the more defined contours of the domes, and no mini-figs (which do seem to drive up the per-piece cost a bit). Same with the bug, which I did just get as a b-day gift and am very excited about since it nearly matches what my first car looked like. The MF has a lot of larger and more complex pieces included with it, at least from what I can tell.

I would say that for the sheer cool factor, and the number of mini-figs you get with the MF makes it well worth the purchase... if you can scrape up the 500 bucks. :)

I am such a nerd...

Got it today! :D

The scale and size of this box and all of the pieces in it. This thing is NUTS. The book is MASSIVE.

Oh man. What have I gotten myself into?!

Trekker, I'd be right there with you if my family accounts totaled a bit more than $12 right now.
