Is TOS Remastered on an extended summer break?

"This Side of Paradise" from this past weekend is currently the final "new" episode listed to air. Does this mean CBS/Paramount is giving Mike Okuda and his effects team a summer break to work on the new batch of episodes for this coming fall, and only reruns of past Remastered episodes will be aired until the end of the summer?

Since there are 80 TOS episodes (counting "The Cage" and the two parts of "The Menagerie" separately) and only 52 weeks in a year, the syndicated TOS-R is being released as two 40-episode seasons, one for 2006-7 and one for 2007-8, with 12 weeks of reruns per season. "This Side of Paradise" was the 40th remastered episode to be aired. So yes, we are now on summer hiatus -- the first "season" is over. Since the rerun schedule on Startrek.com runs through the week of Sept. 8, I would expect the second "season" to begin the week of Sept. 15. Startrek.com says the schedule for the second "season" will be available soon.

Oh, okay then.

I hadn't double-checked with any of the websites that link to or post schedule information, but kind of assumed that we were due for about five or six weeks in a row of reruns before the next batch of Remastered shows revvs up. Any rumors on what the next new one will be?

All I can say is what I said before -- that ST.com says the schedule for "season 2" will be posted soon. Rumors are usually BS; I'd rather just wait for real information than waste time chasing after guesses and fabrications.

I'm hoping "The Alternative Factor"(Lazarus)isn't one of the next ones, not right away. That one needs so much work on so many levels I'm hoping they're saving this one for near the end of the Remastering process.

^^I can't imagine what you expect redoing the FX will do to improve the mess that is that episode.

Do you think some changing of the 'negative' effect or orbital shots can possibly make any sense of the script?

I know the episode is a legendary, shitty little mess of bad opticals and continuity, but MAYBE...possibly...if Okuda does new CGI shots of the two Lazaruses in the corridor as well as the transitions into and out of the corridor(getting rid of those stupid, stupid "spinning newspaper headline" effects superimposed over the photo of that nebula or galaxy)it might be a lot more tolerable visually. The plot and story will still stink. But at least it'll be easier to watch.

I've got a cheap way to fix that; just use that musical cue they used for the same effect on Batman.

Is that the same one they used to go from the teaser to the Opening theme?

Nah, that was louder. The one with the flying bat-symbol was more subdued.

Okay. It's been a lot of years since I've seen it and the memory gets a little creaky.

Almost any quick CGI effect or sound would be better than the original 1967 optics for the corridor transitions. Frankly, even BATMAN producers would have gagged at that one.

I think that trying to make "The Alternative Factor" look good might constitute false advertising. It's a cheap, ludicrous mess at its core, so let it remain so on the surface so that at least it has the virtue of consistency.

Arguably so...but if Okuda and CBS/Paramount are going to digitally update all 80 original episodes they might as WELL give this one their all and see if they can make it any more tolerable and interesting to look at. Leaving the turd alone won't help anything, and it'd stick out even more than it used to.
