Is this video by "The Onion" directed at us somewhat??

Maybe I'm being paranoid, but this (very funny) video by "The Onion" seems to be directed somewhat at us Star Trek fans. Taking a step back, I can see how this could apply to almost any popular film franchise that has a following similar to that of Trek, but it just seems so timely and relevant to the ongoing Star Trek film debate on this and other message boards.

This was posted yesterday by someone (not me) on the IMDB Star Trek board, but I thought this board should see it too.

Anyway, here's the video:

Classic!!

I think this is a very Onionesque pisstake on fandom in general and applies to all fandom, not just Star Trek fandom.. However if the shoe fits..

I think I saw this posted in one of the other fora here, too -- probably SF&F -- but yeah, that's us, and all the general fanboy population, as well. Being as it's The Onion, I can't really see it as being in any way malicious; they're just doing what they do (very well. :techman:)

I'm not a regular watcher of their video clips, though, so this may have come up before, but does anyone else think Michael Bannon looks like the illegitimate love-child of Frank Langella and Gene Rayburn? I found it difficult at times to pay attention to what he was saying, because he kept looking like one or both of those other guys.

Frank Langella being an official DS9 hire, you are now officially NO LONGER OF THE BODY!

I love the Onion, but like you I don't frequent there website...

...I do know they do not have malicious intent. I can appreciate satire; it's my favorite form of humor.

It applies to us, but it's not directed at us. It's just satirizing the Internet reaction to movie hype and Internet media nerds in general.

If they've taken their cue from anywhere it would be the talkbacks at AICN.

No.

But this video applies to us.

And I'm sure some among you will remember the relevance of this. ;)

lol! :guffaw:you and starship p. hit a nail. About Ironman, well, another case of reveling too much? I think so, and so does the Onion.

Directed at us? No, not directed at the lusers who post comments all day long but directed at tptb who have thrust their advertising online with much more content that ever before. Ironman is THE most reveled blockbuster summer film... online ... ever. I reckon. I could be wrong... *chuckle*
