Sorry for the bizarre request. Trying to remember the episode of a science fiction programme where convicted prisoners receive the diseases of the innocent - through some sort of device. Need the right reference to complete some night class homework. I think it was either Trek or something similar. Thanks in advance.

The closest Star Trek came (and it wasn't that close) would have been TNG's Skin of Evil. The people of Armus's world put all of their negative attributes into a single being and then left him alone on a planet.

Could've been Babylon 5 Episode Quality of Mercy. June Lockhart guest starred as Dr. Laura Rosen. She got ahold of an Alien Healing Device that was said to be used as a Justice Machine to suck the healthy life force out of Prisoners and give them the maladies of people being healed by the Device. The Device was later used in a Dramatic Plot Twist in a late Season 4 Episode.
