Is there something wrong with me?

TOS is hard science fiction.
:guffaw::rofl:
What are you on?? TOS is campy space adventure. Kirk vs. Apollo. Kirk vs. Klingons. Enterprise invaded by space hippies. Spock's brain is stolen. Nazi planet. Roman planet. Spock's Vulcan mating urge means he has to fight Kirk to the death. A giant space amoeba threatens the galaxy.
I LOVE TOS, and a few episodes had big ideas, but let's be realistic, eh?

TOS focused on actual science fiction concepts while the later Treks used science fiction merely as a backdrop. TOS was actually about exploring strange new worlds and seeking our new life, but TNG just used that in its opening title sequence. No, TOS isn't the hardest of the hard, but I would describe it as hard science fiction relative to the other series. I've read several posts from TOS (and early TNG) fans saying that they enjoyed TOS because of the strange new worlds and wacky sci-fi concepts while the later series became soap operas. The science fiction element of TOS is a big appeal of the series.

Anyway, you're taking my tongue-in-cheek 5 word summations too seriously. Would you believe I don't like TOS and actually enjoy Star Trek "is shit" Enterprise? But hey, if you can come up with a better summation for TOS that is 5 words or less (not counting the is) I'd be happy to change it.

If any of you are true Trek fans, you will like every series.

Worst logic ever.

Everyone is free to like as much or as little of any Star Trek franchise and there is nothing wrong with that. My favorites are TOS & TNG plus their movies. I also like a good deal of Voyager but not so much DS9. I only like a few scattered episodes of Enterprise.

That isn't to say I'm not enjoying the series - it is great, but nothing so far has come close to Voyager for me - does that mean there is something wrong with me?

Not in the least. Something you'll find common among fans is that their favorite series is also the one they remember watching first.

One may like the exploration and traveling in space elements of Voyager and not like the stationary setting of DS9. Or they may like the sort of arc-based storytelling DS9 copied from B5, and not like the more episodic storytelling shown on TNG.

It doesn't mean there's anything wrong with you, or with the series you prefer. It just means you know what you like. Good on you, mate.

My first is TOS and it's the only Trek series I dislike.

No. It simply means that VOYAGER is the show you prefer, and there's nothing wrong with that. I don't happen to agree with you, my preference is for TOS/TNG/DS9, but I can even find things to like about VOYAGER and ENTERPRISE.

In short, your opinion is just as valid as mine.

As for your comment that TNG "was of the 80's". To that, I can only assume that you were born after 1990, and see the 80's as some sort of cheesy bad thing. As a teenager of that time, I can tell you that it wasn't. Not by a long shot. It was a great era.

Heh. If you see TNG from the 80's as a bad thing, I can't wait to hear what you thing of TOS from the 60's.

That's right, B5 invented arc-based storytelling. There was no such thing before on TV, do ya hear me? And DS9 copied it while airing at the same time. The DS9 writers were watching every episode of B5 to learn how to write their arcs. "Damn it. I've missed the latest B5 ep! Ron, if you've seen it, could you fill in for me this week?" "Nah, I had to go to a friend's party last week, I've missed it, too. I'll ask Hans." ;)

In fact, possibly introducing the Romulan War into the final couple of seasons may have made the final assessment of this series something different than it is today.

I think if they'd been allowed to continue and we got Romulan War episodes, that Enterprise could have been something really fantastic in Trek.

If any of you are true Trek fans, you will like every series. I LOVE EM ALL!! I like TNG, Voyager, and DS9 all the same. I like TOS and ENT the least, but I still like em.

This sounds kinda facist :rommie: but I agree!
Trek is Trek, there isn't exactly any vast difference between late TNG and Voyager, so I find it hard to believe one would love TNG and hate Voyager. Especially if they were a fan of season 7 TNG.

Yes, but at least TNG had 5 seasons of quality episodes (ymmv) before getting to the snoozefest that is season 7. Voyager cannot come close to saying the same.

I love TNG and loathe VOY accordingly.

Well I really don't see a major difference in the stories and how they're told between Voyager and TNG 5/6/7

If stories were all there is to a TV show then why not just read a book.

For starters, I did not identify with any of the characters in VOY in the slightest. In fact, I found many of them repellant. Also, much of the acting was subpar when compared to TNG.

No, true Trek fans love every episode. Not just every episode, but every scene of every episode. In fact, true Trek fans love every line of dialogue from every scene from every episode of every series.

So, if you laughed at "Brain and brain! What is brain?!" then you're not a true Trek fan.

I find that there is something to like in every series, but personally I like TOS/TNG/DS9 more than VOY/ENT. It's no biggie though - there is so much Trek out there that it's pretty impossible for people to all like the same stuff. What would be the point anyway? It would be boring! :D

VOY did have a good cast, though a lot of them weren't utilised very well from seasons 4-7. It is something that DS9 did a hell of a lot better, but it may not be apparent at the point in the show you're at. I disagree with you on Kira though - she's one of my favourites!

I think you were a bit unlucky with TNG in where you watched up to. Whilst your sanity has probably evaporated after the madness of season one, and the less-mad-but-still-a-bit-shite season two, the quality went up a lot in season three. There's a lot of good TNG to be seen until about season six, when it starts going off the boil. The films that you've seen are also a bit hit and miss.

Hope you carry on enjoying whichever series you decide to watch. :techman:

And as for TOS being 'campy' - people only see it as campy compared to the series that they've grown up watching recently. Each decade brought to television lots of changes in style, just like in real life.

From this 'old guy' who did not - and still does not find TOS campy, well said.

No reason to be jealous. :) B5 did it before DS9 and did it better. It's cool. No reason to get all defensive and try to be snarky.

Count this "old guy" in too.

You know, maybe we older folks should start making claims about today's shows that the kids like, such as Ron Moore's hideous BSG remake being campy (which it was from start to finish), and see how they like it.
