Is it a guy show? An under 30 crowd show? Geek show, or perhaps Blue Collar show. Curious if there is any consensus or study on this. I realize there may need to be 2 categories for such a study, old show & new show.

It's a science fiction show. Some still believe it's a kid' show. But, ultimately, the only pattern I've noticed to the fans (both old and new) is that we're all science fiction fans. Any more specific demographic than that is just trying to pick one flower out of a bouquet.

It appeals to a wide range of people, from the young to the old, both men and women. I think this is true for both the classic and new series.

It certainly must be appealing to non-SciFi fans in the UK, given the ratings it typically gets. In the US, it's mostly made up the usual Sci-Fi Friday viewership.

That would have been so much funnier if you'd substituted Galifray for Sparta :D

Nah. The Time Lords are more akin to Atlantis than any real historical culture.

The gay thing is pretty easy to explain on a cod psychological level: you're a teenage boy, you know you should be starting to like girls but uyou don't, and here's this character who's utterly relaxed about not being interested that way (or any other).

Of course, that argument pre-dates Rose... ;-0 (and the McGann snog).

On the opriginal poster's point, I know fans from 10 year olds who'll proudly tell you they remember Eccleston ("But my little sister doesn't") to people in their fifties for whom Hartnell's the only 'proper' Doctor, to people older than that who first watched because their kids were addicted (my grandad remembered stories from when I was four, and he'd be 100 if he was still around)...

I've never understood why singers such as Kylie have such a gay following, but then I'm straight. You have beautaful women, with fans who aren't interested in women

I went to the David Tennant signing, and James Marsters Torchwood Convention. Mostly female fans.

Didn't the gay community in the UK vote him sexiest man a couple of years ago?

Which one, Eccleston or Tennant? 'Cause I could see them both winning (though Tennant could stand to gain 10-15 pounds; he's skinny as a rake!).

*goes to pick up copy or Gay Times*

oh hang on I dont have a copy, I dont know, I dont read those magazines.

as to Kylie and her following, not sure I get it either, its something to do with how alot of gay men seem to identify with the female, rather than the male, something I dont totally understand either. That said Kylie has done everything she can to panda to that fanbase, so that is a big part of the reason why she has it.

im pretty much a new series only fan, yeah ive seen some of the Classic Series, but not alot.
