Sounds to me like he's flashing back through his companions the way Baker and Davison did; only this time the flashbacks are somehow tangible, so he gets to interact with them, however briefly.

I prefer this over spinning heads.

The questions till remains: how did he die?

The episode may well open up with him already dying, flashing back. The big reveal may be that the reason he is seeing everyone all over again is that he's lying alone, slowly dying in the console room.

It would be clever if they never told us how he actually dies. Just show his last two breaths. Between them his companions flash before his eyes, and then he is reborn.

No big "Earth is at stake" or "battle untold evil for the umpteenth time." Just a character piece. Nice send off, if they do it.

I dont mind the idea of starting with the regeneration, and then going back to the start, its well known that Matt Smith is taking over, the only mystery left is "how" well unless you think he is going to trip over a brick of course.

I think the popular fan idea that he just grows old and dies is rather clever and fitting for the character. Unlikely, but fitting.
