is Shatner...Kirk?

DENNY CRANE did a great job in helping to seperate Kirk from Shatner. But, now, a year removed from Boston Legal, I find myself reverting to my old habit of not being able to seperate Shatner from Kirk.

When he was on CONAN last week, and read Palin's Twits, I couldn't get past his being Kirk. But now Shather is so beyond TREK I consider Kirk, and all that kirk was, absorbed by shatner...I don't know how to explain it.

Are you the same? Can you seperate Kirk/Shatner, or do you see them as blurred?

Rob

Since he looks nothing like TOS Kirk these days, or even TOS movies Kirk, I find it easy to separate them.

But he'll always be Big Giant Head to me. :p

LOL...

Does anyone know if he has ever had face lifts? He is 76 years old, I guess, so his aging I don't really take into account. For people my age, William Shatner has always been a star. Maybe not as famous as Michael Jackson, but I wasn't a fan of MJs as much as I always have been a fan of Shatner's. If and when he passes on, I know I will be very touched and saddened.

So..here's to another 76 years of Bill Shatner; Star Trek's #1 legend.

Rob

Kirk stopped being Kirk when Shatner stopped playing Kirk and started playing Shatner instead.

And now CHEVY CHASE is going to try to imitate Shatner being shatner in this new COMMUNITY sitcom I saw a commercial too..sorry CHEVY..you are NO shatner!!

This is so true I forget when it happen, it just kind of happened one day. I don't think the world will be the same.

The best imitation of Shatner I have seen has to be Billy West voicing Zapp Brannigan on Futurama

Shat is Shat. I can't say anymore than that: by reputation he is bigger than Kirk, bigger than Denny Crane. And he can't hear the rest of us over the sound of how awesome he is...

For me, Shat played Kirk up until TMP. For some reason, I donno if he stopped acting and just got lazy, or if it's just my perception, or just his toupee, but from TMP on, Shat's just been Shat.

Hmm. I don't think so. I don't know what you base that judgment on, but I think Shatner's best performances as Kirk came in STII and STIII, which is also when Kirk was at his most human, and (to me at least) most sympathetic.

... which makes it hard to believe that he was playing Shatner. If anything, he was playing Shatner less than he did many times in TOS.

I dont' think so. (face lift)....and do not even whisper anything about him..shuffling off this mortal coil. I seriously cannot even think about it in any way shape or form.

Eh, it's probably just more my perception than anything.

Of course Shatner is Kirk, its his role, his take on the character he made the character his own.

As for the rest, he's 78 years old now, did a lot of stuff, some good some bad, he's a human being afterall but heck what would anyone else have done in his shoes?

I like to be able to remember him as Kirk, and the other characters he played, he's an actor afterall.

Ummm...shatner is not an actor...he is GOD. I mean that. When ever I bowl, and have to get that f'ing 10 pin? I whisper his name and, 90% of the time, I get it...

A mere actor? Sorry..not WILLIAM SHATNER!!!

Rob

You know, he looks enough different now - and he plays characters so different from Kirk - that I really don't have much problem keeping Shatner separate from Kirk.

But if I did typecast him, I agree with DevilEyes - he'd always be the Big Giant Head to me! ;)

Or maybe the guy obsessed with the fortune-telling machine in Twilight Zone...I love that episode.
