News Is Shada the next serial to receive animation?

I'm not sure how reliable this news is, but Starburst Magazine claims that Shada will be the next serial to receive animation which is supposedly scheduled for release in November.

However, I am somewhat skeptical of this news because their only source is a month-old tweet from Daniel Hill, who played Chris Parsons in the serial. The rest is pure speculation on Starburt's part, including the possibly of Tom Baker's involvement. Furthermore, no other news outlet has this story.

Is it mean of me not to want to see it? I mean, I've seen it already, by way of Ian "CHRIS CHIBNALL MAKES ME WANNA VOMIT" Levine, which I liked for the most part.

BUT. It would be a nice, big sell. The last Tom Baker serial to be released, a real Lost Story from that era, a new story as it'll need new recordings from the surviving cast and thus new direction, and the last 70's DW to boot.

Assuming this story is true and if they get Tom Baker, Lalla Ward, John Leeson, Christopher Neame, and Victoria Burgoyne (and someone who sounds like Denis Carey) to record audio for the missing episodes, then I'm all for it. I've always been a big fan of the story and I loved Big Finish's retelling of the story with Paul McGann.

I think Tom would do it, especially after having done such a slew of Big Finish audios. Hell, it'll be the first time in over 30 years his Doctor will on-screen in new animation, in a newly completed production (even if it is by finishing stuff he did back in the day).

Yes, please!

I enjoyed the Paul McGann recreation of the story, but to have the story finished with Tom Baker's involvement would obviously be the preferred version.

So will they animate all the stuff that was shot as well? Seems like a bit of a waste of money.

Ian Levine's reaction should be fun though.

He deleted his tweets talking about Chibnall killing Doctor Who and making him want to vomit, only to post a new tweet declaring he won't watch Doctor Who anymore because of a female Doctor. Interesting he doesn't want insults made towards another guy kept on the record, but it's apparently okay to him to insult women. Not that I'm suggesting anything, of course...

Eh, fuck Ian Levine. I don't care what he thinks about this news.

Clayton Hickman of Doctor Who Magazine seems to have semi-confirm this news in a tweet.

My personal preference would be for them to blend the live-action and animated sequences into a single narrative. Sort of how like in the pre colorization era, the only way to see the entirety of the original Star Trek pilot The Cage was to watch it with color and black-and-white sequences strung together.

Tom will be in this, as there's no point in doing a fresh animated reconstruction without him. Otherwise you might as well pay Levine off (holding your nose as you do) and release his version. So glad for Tom that he finally gets to finish this, though I feel bad for the rest of the surviving cast having to come in and re-re-record their lines (This'll be Lalla/John's third crack at finishing this!). I agree it'll most likely be half live-action/half-animation like Levine's, which I'm fine with.

After this? It'll be either Marco Polo, The Highlanders, Evil of the Daleks (to honor Deborah Watling) or The Space Pirates. Might as well get the last (and worst) out of the way first, just to finish Season 6 up.

I know that it's not a part of the original script, but I would it love if they threw in some sort of nod the events of The Five Doctors.

IMO, I'd just edit out the scene of the Doctor and Romana rowing in the Cambridge river (or whatever that was), just to keep the scene as part of The Five Doctors. Instead, write a new scene where the Doctor and Romana arrive at Chronotis' office, don't find him, and scatter off before coming back.

When I clicked on the link it said that the page doesn't exist. As for the story, I'd love to see Shada completed. Any chance it'll be out before November?

Hm, interesting. The tweet appears to be deleted now. Perhaps he spoke too soon or maybe he was wrong altogether.

The tweet from Daniel Hill (which is still there) suggested it would be ready by November, which isn't necessarily when it'll be released (assuming it's actually happening).

I hope this is true. I'd buy it without hesitation. My hope would be that they use the live footage that they have and only use animation where needed. I suppose that could be jarring but I don't want to watch animation when live footage exists.
