Is Nimoy setting a record with this film?

again not as good as Nimoy, but Elisabeth Sladen, started playing Sarah Jane Smith in 1973, and continues to play her today, in the spin-off show, The Sarah Jane Adventures, of course, Doctor Who was off air for a few years, but in the meantime she did plenty of audio stories.
I really like The Sarah Jane Adventures. Is it still being aired? Sci-Fi Channel aired them last year and I became a fan.
I am sure I heard they were going to air S2, but I dont know when they plan to. Its an odd show for Sci-Fi really.
Not really, it is a much more sci-fi show than rasslin'!! THAT is what doesn't belong on the Sci-Fi Channel.:alienblush:
I love your avatar, that was a weird episode.

oh one more example, UK soap Corrie started in 1960, and one of its characters Ken Barlow is still in the show today, 49 years playing the same charater (unsure if he took any breaks during that time)

fair point, I just wouldnt normally associate Sci-Fi with a kids show, however CBBC did do a UK version of Sci-Fis, Who Wants to be a Superhero.

Are there any other notable examples of actors playing specific characters at least twice over long periods of time?

I can't think of an actor--but Cecil B DeMille's first version of The Ten Commandments was released in 1923, and his second version in 1956, thirty-three years later.

Also, William Wyler worked as an assistant director on the 1928 silent version of Ben Hur, thirty-one years before he directed the 1959 remake.

In the late '80s there was an interesting episode of "Murder, She Wrote," which was interwoven with clips/scenes from a 1940s mystery movie. The MSW episode was basically a sequel/ending to the 1940s movie, with many of the original actors reprising their roles. IIRC, Angela Lansbury solved the original '40s mystery.

An interesting concept, I thought at the time -- kind of like "The Menagerie," but with a gap of 40 years.

Sci Fi roles seem to have some sticking power.

Here's another:

Buster Crabbe played Flash Gordon beginning in the movie serials of 1936... and again in in the television series "Buck Rodgers in the 25th Century" in 1979, as Brigadier Alex "Flash" Gordon. That's 43 years from first & last appearance of the same actor in the same role.

They did something similar with Boston Legal's 2007 episode "Son of the Defender"... which used film clips from a 1957 Studio One episode co-starring William Shatner.

Beat me to it. Ken Barlow's a legend.

Clint Eastwood could still do that fourth installment of the Man With No Name trilogy. ;)

Clint Eastwood has said that one of the appealing subtexts to Unforgiven was that "William Munny" could have been an older version of most of his earlier western roles.

In fact Eastwood is wearing the same boots he wore in the tv series Rawhide, which began in 1959, as William Munny. He also wore those same boots, the shirt and gun grips that he wore on the tv series in A Fistful of Dollars.
