Is LDS intended to be funny?

To me it’s not funny at all, which is probably why I’m looking for more substantial stories, dismissing the silliness and callbacks as researched but exaggerated fluff. I’m just curious if anyone has experienced actual LOL or even ROTFL. Perhaps that isn’t even the intent, and it’s more about a fan going “Hey, I got that reference!” about twice a minute?

Is it wrong that I actually like the characters and want them to A) get their own quarters B) move up in rank C) perform serious missions well D) have entire episodes to themselves? This whole idea of focusing on junior officers remaining junior forever just isn’t doing anything for me. Where is the star trek in that?

Well, it's a sitcom, so yeah, it's intended to be funny. And yes, I laugh my ass off during each episode, with the joke last year about Anthony the Warp Ten Salamander being the hardest I've laughed in a long time. Don't think I've laughed as hard since either.
Where is the star trek in that?
How isn't it Star Trek?

Probably Yes to all of the above...
Lower Decks is not ever going to be the show you apparently want.

Why is that so hard a concept for you to grasp?

Why can't you just accept the show as it is or move on?

I loved the Original Battlestar Galactica but just couldn't get into the remake even after watching the entire first season.
But I certainly didn't spend my time after that wanting it to be something I realized it wasn't.

As I said elsewhere, I have my own criticisms about the show and I absolutely believe that there's room here for having a constructive debate about what could or should be different about Lower Decks. A constructive debate doesn't begin with asserting it might not be intended to be funny, though. It's just a ridiculous stance to have, honestly. The ol' It isn't Star Trek™ routine doesn't help much either. Your post strikes me as a thinly veiled attempt at baiting other posters into flaming etc., which we obviously can't have here.

I do believe your desire to discuss the negatives of the show are genuine, but that's certainly not the way to do it, and your previous interactions in other threads make clear which way this thread would go. Which is why I decided to close it now before it escalates. Please use the other threads to voice your criticism in a less confrontational manner. We don't need a dedicated thread for that, thank you.
