Better than the first and third Spider-Man movies? Yes, most certainly (and better than Spider-Man 3 by light years.) I'm not quite sure if it's better than Spider-Man 2 (which I consider to be the greatest of the modern superhero movies) but it is certainly in the top five.
I saw it on Friday night. Was pretty cool. Superman for me though is still the best Comic Adaptation, and they didn't need CGI or anything. Spiderman was okay but Ironman was better than that.
I don't necessarily think that's 100% true anymore. It was about 150% true before the end of December, now...hell if I know.
YES ! Just saw Iron Man today and had my little socks jolly well rocked. Light years ahead of Spiderman (especially 3, which was cringe worthy to say the least.)
Iron Man is much, much better than all three Spider-Man movies, but then I had major issues with the Spider-Man movies (speaking as a long time fan of Spider-Man comics).
Tough call IMO. I really liked the first Spiderman movie. Its major flaw for me was lack of adherence to Green Goblin. He looked only in passing as GG. I forgive the organic web shooters. The home invasion death vs car jacking death of Uncle Ben is also forgivable. The changes they made in Spiderman work for that film. Iron Man was able to update his origin and keep it quite true. Iron Monger looked like Iron Monger and they did a great job honoring Happy, Pepper and Rhodes. Its a tough call but I've alwasys been a Spiderman first so my edge goes to web-head. Iron Man is now in my top 5 of best comic adaption films easily.
the biggest mistake they made in Spider-Man and they made it in all three was he didn't CRACK WISE! IM does it when he says 'This looks important' and rips out circuits from the Monger suit. THAT'S the kinda thing Spidey would say when fighting someone like Monger. He shoulda been ripping the piss out of GG's crappy plastic armour and he shoulda cracked wise when he was fighting Ock in the bank at least - like 'Hey, you wanna make a withdrawal, queue up like everyone else!'
captcalhoun, you echo one of my biggest gripes with the Spider-Man films. Me, I liked Iron Man better than any of the Spidey films, though I must say Spider-Man 2 is about as good. Batman Begins remains the best.
I never really noticed that before, but now that you mention it, yeah your right. That was a great line from Iron Man by the way
I really loved Spider-Man when it came out, but man years later now I think its one of the most cheesiest campest films ever made. Full of awful, vomit inducing moments which just ruin the whole film for me Of course I've only seen Iron Man once so far, but I thought it rocked, easily, easily better than Spidey As for comic book movies (esp Marvel ones) X-Men 2 still proudly holds the flag though
