Is Hurricane Irene Coming your Way?

A lot of my neighborhood has been w/o power, but my house is fine, thank goodness. And my ex's place, where I was staying for a few months, is still w/o power. Had a small casualty there...

I think I mentioned in another thread that we were taking care of a fish -- a mini koi -- that supposedly belonged to a friend of his. I prefer furry pets, but he was good company while I was spending so much time in bed, and I became quite attached to him and even named him. Anyway, the poor little guy didn't survive the filter's being off so long.

R.I.P. James Tiberius Koik.
Oh, that's a shame. RIP, Tiberius. :(

My cable modem lights up in a manner indicating an internet signal, so something is definitely being sent even though I don't have network access. My guess is that something is wrong at a central hub. I am getting comcast tv cable service, though, and my neighbors appear to be getting internet based upon the wireless signals (probably FIOS).

I got similar behavior after a nearby lightning strike a few months ago. As far as I could tell, the lightning strike fried the ethernet ports in both my cable modem and wireless router, while leaving the rest of both devices functional.

Interesting...

I logged into my account from my parent's house:

"There is a known technical issue in your area. Technicians are working toward a resolution."

I hope things are back to normal as soon as possible for you and everyone who has had flooding and power outages. I didn't realize the flooding would be an issue - and anyone would be pretty screwed w/o power for days at a time.

I got lucky, the Mohawk river only came up to the fence in my backyard, but a lot of my neighbors here in Schenectady's Stockade neighborhood were hard hit by flooding, including my best friend Brian whose house's first floor not only got flooded by the river, but also by the backed up sewer system. Spent the day hauling out all his destroyed furniture and possessions, and clearing out 70% of the mud. His furnace and hot water tank for the first floor were ruined and have to be replaced, so he's going to live in his unrented upstairs apt. We rescued most of his expensive electronics thankfully, but he'll need all new furniture and a bed once the first floor is cleaned and renovated. Go fuck a truck Irene.

eta: The college I work at got major flooding so I am out of work (paid) for the week, until next Tuesday. Classes start next Thursday and I have a ton of online textbook orders to fill. :(

I just got my power back on tonight at 9pm...it went off Sat at 4pm. It has been a horrible week...I won't go into details but I am just glad some things are getting back to normal. :sigh:

Never lost power here, despite supposedly being near the path of the eye of the hurricane...it was not really a hurricane here...winds 45mph, 66 near the coast.

RAMA

Glad things are getting back to normal for you. This was a pretty amazing storm. I have a friend halfway up the coast of New Hampshire who lost power for more than 48 hours.

It was a rough week...cause we didn't have water also...so had to run out to a family members home and fill up jugs every day.

I am hoping to relax today...the yard is all cleaned up and everything in the house is back to normal...or at least to the way it was.

Hope everyone else made it through Ok. :bolian:
