Is anyone else playing Torchlight?

I haven't seen anyone at The Trekbbs mention this game. Torchlight is a Diablo style action RPG made by Runic games. Some of the developers are Blizzard veterans who worked on Diablo II. And the music is done by Matt Uelmen, the same guy who did the soundtrack for Diablo I & II.

I think that Torchlight successfully captures the feel of Diablo II while adding some innovations of its own (for example, you automatically pick up gold when you walk over it, instead of having to click on it). So far I am really liking the game and am finding it to be quite addictive.

Torchlight has no multiplayer, but it only cost $20. The system requirements are very low too.

Oh, and some advice for anyone who buys it: If you are a veteran of Diablo style games, I recommend picking the hard difficulty instead of normal. I found normal to be too easy, and ended up restarting the game.

Any game that allows the player to wield a pistol and a sword at the same time has something going for it.

And any class can equip any weapon.

Do you also have the game, Rii? What do you think of it so far?

I was worried that it wouldn't hold my interest because it doesn't have an in depth story like, say The Witcher or Mass Effect. What keeps me coming back is the fun of finding rare item drops, and unlocking new skills for my character. The great art design and soundtrack also keep me playing. So far every level has had a unique look.

Between the gameplay and the Matt Uelmen soundtrack, I sometimes feel like I am 16 again and playing Diablo II for the first time. :)

I've only spent a few hours with the demo, as a Ranger. I considered picking up the full game, but I just don't have time for it. I've recommended it to a few friends though.

I was impressed with both the polished presentation and the solidity of the gameplay; the game has a very 'Blizzard' feel to it, which I guess isn't too surprising considering its pedigree.

The pet was one of my favourite features, the mechanic whereby you can send it back to town to sell gear with the duration of its journey determined by how far away you are from town is simple yet satisfying. Incidentally I named my cat 'Tolstoy', which I think is going to be the name I give to all in-game pets in future.

Had a run with the demo yesterday, pretty enjoyable, might pay to unlock it...2 hour demo is evil genius...

It's on sale for 10 bucks on D2D today, but I'm going to hope for a Steam sale next week to pick it up.

Never mind, it's 10 bucks on Steam!
