Is Alexander Siddig's accent in DS9 his real accent?

indolover

Fleet Captain
I saw an interview of him on Youtube the other day, when he was at a Film Festival in Toronto. it is here if anybody wishes to see it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzlEINzjsvs

He obviously spoke with a British accent, but not the same as in DS9 with Bashir. With Julian, did he exaggerate his own UK accent more?

And it seems our good doctor has done OK for himself post-DS9. it's a shame most of his roles are Arabs though. :rolleyes::thumbdown:

I did not insinuate that. I was blaming Hollywood producers for only picking him in Arab roles, since he is an Arab himself.

Sid used a Received Pronunciation accent for his role as Bashir; interestingly, when Bashir's father appeared on the show, he had a much more working class sort of accent, implying that Bashir decided to adopt a new accent to set himself apart from his father.

Anyway, it looks like Sid decided that Bashir would be the sort who would speak in R.P.

Just something he picked up in school?

Maybe it was a conscious decision to reject his father's working class mode of speech and affect a more upper crust "urbane" style. Not speaking ill of the good doctor, but he won't be the first person to do this.

When I first started high school, certain of my fellow students said I talked "a little funny," for the next three years whenever I was around them I cranked up my spanish accent, sometime to the point even I couldn't understand what the hell I was saying.

:lol::lol::lol:

Remember also he harbored a lot of resentment towards his parents for genetically modifying him; perhaps the adoption of a more "upper-class" accent was part of rejecting them.
