Ironman

What was all the hype about Ironman? I watched it for the first time the other night and I couldn't get past an hour of it. All of my friends seem to think it was a really good movie when they saw it at the theatre and when I tried to sit down and watch it, I dunno, I guess I was bored with it :)

It was excellent, that's why all the hype. Also, it's the start of a larger Marvel project that many of us have been looking forward to.

At the end of the film, after the credits, Samuel L. Jackson appears as Nick Fury, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. He tells Stark he's not the only superhero around and wants to talk to him about the "Avenger Initiative".

At the end of The Incredible Hulk, Robert Downey Jnr makes a cameo as Stark - telling General Ross that he is putting a team together.

There are movies based on Thor, Ant Man and Captain America on their way as well as Iron Man 2. After that, we have The Avengers. Jackson is contracted to make appearances in 9 movies.

Obviously you aren't a real fan. It's spelled "Iron Man" not "Ironman".

And its a "Science Fiction / Fantasy" movie. Thus belongs in that forum

As a Comic book fan and Iron Man fan, I just found it refreshing to finally get a faithful reproduction of said book. No re-imaginings, nuvisions, own takes, etc. The only real deviation from the comic was setting the origin in the middle east instead of Korea. Which was done so we didn't have a 70 year old main character.

Why? The description of this forum is "Non-Trek television, movies, bokos, music, video games, etc." so I think it fits fine here, too :)

I didn't think that it was horrible. To be honest I'm not really sure why I enjoyed it as much as I did. Maybe the ending where he just admits to the world he's Iron Man in the middle of a press conference (and the SHIELD agent just looks like he wants to kill him).

I would have liked another half hour. It felt too short or maybe there wasn't enough Mark III for my liking.

I loved Iron Man. My MOM loved Iron Man (I think she's officially in love with RDJr and digs Gywnth Paltrow - although I think even more after she started watching that PBS 'On the Road' with Mario Batalli and GP lol - man can that girl eat LOL) so IM is a high water mark for me. It PROVED that you don't have to fuck with the character's origin, essence, look, etc to make a 'good' movie. Even Incredible Hulk was pretty good in that it had enough of the Hulk but also kept Banner pretty much the Banner we know and love. Plus... it had Liv Tyler.

My only hope is that IM2 lives up to the legacy of the first Iron Man. And yes, I wished IM had just a liiiiitle more in it. I kinda wanted to see more Mark 2 before Mark 3. Kinda thought it would have worked better for Gulmira if he took the Mark 2 (maybe in JUST the gold plating) there and then the Mark 3 was the climax armor.

But everything worked in my opinion. The music, the direction, the actors they chose. It all just worked. Its rare when that happens in a comic movie. Maybe it helped that no one was overly super powered and had to figure out how to relate to a guy who can blow up anything with his eye beams or climb on walls.

I honestly didn't know that, I wondered why he showed up at the end of Iron Man. NOW I KNOW! and i'm excited!

After so many crappy comic 'adaptations', it was just a pleasant surprise to see a film that was entertaining, fun, AND faithful to the source material.

Guess we all just have different tastes.

I agree that it was a good movie. For me it was because it was a relatively faithful adaptation of the story. Casting RDjr in the role was brilliant because of his own womanizing, alcoholic experiences (which was Stark in a nutshell initially).

Generally it was fresh because it was a new franchise, and I had no idea what they were going to do with it. I know I'll earn some hate for this, but I saw Iron Man in the theatre and skipped Dark Knight until DVD. I personally feel while DK was a good movie it didn't live up to its hype, but Iron Man was a damn fine movie of something that I hadn't seen on the screen before. Re-making something over and over without doing anything more than updating the esthetics doesn't make me want to have to endure theatres full of other people..

I agree, I liked Iron Man better than The Dark Knight but that might just be my longstanding preference for Marvel over DC.

Ah, Vietnam, not Korea.:wtf:

Because it was an excellent and stylish action flick with good characters, humor special effects, and acting. Overall the best movie of last year.

You watched it on a TV, right? In someone's living room? With people talking, phones ringing, pausing it to go to the can, etc?

I loved it at the cinema last year but I haven't seen it since. I want the 2-disc DVD but the cheapest I've seen it is £14.99, and I'm not paying that when I know it will go down in price sooner or later.
I looked in HMV today and they had it at £25! What a friggin joke

The reason for all the 'hype' is that so many comic-book movies are so terrible.

There was nothing amazing about Iron Man. I mean, yes, it was good. It was enjoyable. It was fun. I liked it.

But when you get right down to it, it was a fairly normal, average movie. But compared to a lot of other comic movies, it's a piece of gold.

So that's where the hype comes from. No big mystery there.
