iPod format videos

I am looking for free Ipod format videos to add to my iPod. When I search for iPod format videos I just gets pages for downloading software to reformat videos. Before google bought youtube google video had a download button that let you choose iPod format. Does anyone know of a good website to search videos only in iPod format? I am not talking about bootleg movies or anything like that. thanks

I have sort of a very remedial (I think) question related to video iPods.

How do you transfer videos from DVDs to an iPod? Can you do it just like you upload songs from CDs?

Yes and no. You can't take the video directly from the DVD, but you can rip it and then convert it to another format, just like you rip songs from a CD and convert them to MP3.

Put simply, videos on a DVD are in MPEG-2 format. According to WP, ipods will read the MPEG-4 AVC and Quicktime formats. (That's a bit vauge, since Quicktime is a container format, not a video format.) Anyway, if you're using a Mac, then you can use Quicktime to convert the video (I'm not sure if it will rip from the DVD, though; you'll have to look into that). If you're using a Windows PC then you can use VirtualDubMod, I think for both the ripping and the converting.

Hope that helps. Don't hesitate to ask questions. :)

^ Thanks very much for your response. Here is what I am trying to do (on a Windows PC): I have a large album which came with a disk of the band's videos. These videos are not even on iTunes because they are a Canadian band and somehow never reached American iTunes. So now I want to take some of the music videos from the DVD and stick them on my video iPod. I don't know that I want to put ALL the videos on my iPod because of space issues. But certainly 2 or 3 of my favorites.

Importing songs from CD has never been a problem, but I figured this was not gonna be as easy.

I have ripped a DVD before, but I used DVD Shrink. DVD Shrink, however, makes an ISO file, so I don't think that will work.

I guess my first step is to get this VirtualDubMod then?

Please hang in there with me. I am by no means a techie.

I've only dabbled with this a little bit here and there, but there is one program that I've used successfully, and it's pretty easy to use.

Videora iPod Converter. It's free.

There are plenty of guides on the site that will help you convert whatever it is you have into an iPod compatible format. I haven't tried converting a DVD yet, but it converts .mpegs and .avis pretty quickly.

I use a mixture of DVD Decrypter and Handbrake to decode from DVD and encode to mp4 respectively.

VLC media player has a very complicated but pretty decent transcoding ability.

Recently Keepvid.com has started to offer the mp4 format.

All you have to do is paste the youtube link and decide whether you want FLV format or MP4

FLV will require the latest SUPER to convert to iPOD format

If you choose the MP4 format you don't need to do anything. Just download and drag the file into your itunes.

ACK! I'd completely forgotten about my participation in this thread! Sorry!

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions. I'm gonna check some of these options out.

There's only one piece of software anyone needs for ripping DVD to DivX.

Fair. Use. Wizard.

That, and buy a player that isn't locked and DRM'd to fuck, actually plays everything you throw at it, behaves like a USB storage device and doesn't require any ridiculous, bloated, proprietary software to do something as simple as transfer a bloody song, and isn't locked to a specific fucking computer and...

Yeah. Sorry.
