Intrepid: Transposition

USS Intrepid

Since it's kind of buried in an older thread, I hope nobody minds but I thought it might be best to give our latest release it's own thread. As always, it's far from perfect, but it's easily the slickest thing we've produced so far and we're pretty proud of it. Constructive feedback is always appreciated.

I hope a few of you who might not have seen it, or might have previously dismissed our earlier efforts, might take the time to check it out. :)

I've got some new headphones and I'm hearing a bit of echo, but the sound is great. I'll watch the entire clip soon but I like what I see. I need to see what Continues sounds like with these new headphones to compare.

Yeah there's definitely some echo going on in the stuff we shot in the dome, and there was some odd interference in the shop area, but it wasn't enough to make me want to ADR it. :)

Yeah, I watched again and it was the setting inside the dome creating the echo. The outdoor scenes need audio help, too, but I'm told that great microphones for the actors to "clip on" run a few thousand dollars each. No idea if that is true.

Lose the cars in the background next time : ) but overall I enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing.

Well the echo in the dome is down to the acoustics in there rather than any settings. It might have been worth ADRing those scenes but I personally think there should be echo given the location. That said, I'm no expert on sound, so others would know better than me. :)

Yeah I think the exterior sound isn't too bad, but I think the music overwhelms it a little in places. There was also a problem with planes flying overhead, which was difficult to clean up. I agree, it could be better. :)

As to the cars, well it was the 21st Century. ;)

Again, thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment. I do appreciate it. :)

I don't see the planes and cars as distractions. In fact, there were no issues (such as sound or editing) which distracted me from the story. That may seem to some like damning with faint praise, but it absolutely is not meant that way. When critiques and suggestions for improvement concentrate on better ways to tell the story without getting bogged down in technical issues, that's indeed progress!

Great to see you back producing again :bolian:

Interesting storyline with plenty of potential for further development or continuation.

Thanks Vulcan_redshirt. Hopefully we're getting back into the groove again. :)

Mike, it hadn't actually occurred to me that some people might find such things as cars distracting. I can see why you might not want to include them from a certain point of view, but like I said, it's not something we considered.

The sound of the plane was a problem, since it was in some takes and not others. We managed to mostly remove it but it does sneak through a little. :)

It wasn't me who thought the cars might be distracting. I think it would have been more odd if they weren't there! Keep going!

Hey, it was I that mentioned the cars. I tend to notice the stuff in the background. If you watch this clip from the :30 mark to the :40 second mark you see a maid in the background. It totally sells the face that we are in a mansion. My point: Background stuff matters : )

One could argue that it's just as important as anything else in film. It deserves careful consideration.

Oh I quite agree that wha's in the background matters. I guess my question is, why do you think the cars were an issue? They didn't seem out of place to me, so I'm genuinely interested in your thoughts. I'm assuming this is a comment on composition rather than the actual cars themselves. I'm no expert on cinematography, so I defer to the people behind the camera on such things. As such I'd really likely have you go into a bit more depth as to why it was an issue for you. :)

Hey, I misunderstood that this film was taking place in current time. I'm still living in the 20th century : )

Still, I am a fan of "beauty" in film, and the various colors of the cars were a distraction. Had they all been the same make, model, color, that might have worked.

FYI - I'm not a "behind the camera" guy either. Just a writer.

Best,
Duane
