Into Darkness: Beware of Rogue Captains, warns Marcus?

Cadet49

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
In Star Trek: Into Darkness,
once the Vengeance catches the Enterprise, Marcus says, "Captain Kirk, without authorization and in league with the fugitive John Harrison, you went rogue in enemy territory, leaving me no choice but to hunt you down and destroy you." Does this explain why no Starship came to help Enterprise when it was being blasted by Vengeance near the moon - had Marcus portrayed to Starfleet that the Enterprise was now a rogue ship in league with John Harrison, who had committed terrorist acuts on Earth against Starfleet, then went to the Klingons ... Could Marcus have portrayed Enterprise as a rogue vessel to there stop the Fleet that should not be communicated with in any way by any Fleet personnel or bases, since it was now an "enemy aligned vessel" that was a threat to all Starfleet bases and ships? ...

Mine too.

I do wonder how they explain things like the Vengeance crash to the regular populace, because there's no version of it that makes Starfleet look good.

Yeah, there's no sweeping that under the rug.

Although, I suppose by that point she had been commandeered by a terrorist, but still...

Perhaps it was section 31 that
that caused a "Blackout" of Earth defenses, or programmed Earth sensors to see false readings of everything in space as "normal", so that Vengeance could blow away Enterprise without interference. Then, once it was discovered what had happened, Marcus could blame the defense problems on rogues Kirk and Harrison, who had been attempting to attack Earth with the Enterprise, but then Marcus stopped them by destroying the rogue ship Enterprise. This could also explain why Enterprise couldn't communicate with anyone - maybe Marcus had hinted Enterprise and Harrison could knock out Starfleet defenses, as might have happened in London and at the captains meeting at HQ - after all Harrison has advanced tech, like transwarp beaming devices - it's conceivable Marcus or Section 31 could blame a defense grid failure on him... But which would unfortunately leave Earth vulnerable...

So, after the event, Starfleet was perhaps not to blame for Earth's lack of defenses - perhaps it was Section 31 and Marcus messing with Earth defense networks so they could hide what they were doing near the moon...

This was my interpretation as well. This is why I figured Kirk made the attempt to get back to Earth with Harrison was to give proof to Starfleet about Marcus' intentions. He may not have counted on being completely cut off.

?

I never really put much thought into it since the Enterprise is always - ALWAYS - the only ship in the sector, but I imagine it's logical to assume that Marcus being the chief executive of everything Starfleet could make sure people stay away from Kirk and co quite easily.
