Interview: Michael Chabon

Awesome interview. And he confirms he will still be executive producer and write episodes for season 2 of Picard, he just won’t be the showrunner anymore

True, but as Gene Roddenberry was executive producer of TNG up until his time of death and had virtually zero involvement, apart from griping about the new shows and movies in development... all that isn't to say Chabon won't be doing anything under an empty title... but it's not implausible a possibility either.

Let's see the episodes first and if the show doesn't get canceled, at one point no show that hadn't even had a single episode aired would never get a renewal so quickly. That's like giving a CEO position to a kid who's in his second year of college with zero field experience.

Interesting that he had dinner with Rick Berman. Berman has been singing his praises for a while, saying Star Trek is lucky to have Chabon working on it.

Cool. :)

And a showrunner, as it is nowadays, is not an easy or simple job. Showrunner AND writer would be tremendous pressure. He's a renowned writer, he probably prefers putting out good scripts over juggling every aspect of a show.

So just like the STD haters then.;)

Yep we're back to the "live Star Trek in production" paradigm again, just like 1987.

Yeah but they don't hate for all the same reasons, just like all who like or love the show don't do so for the same reasons, then you've got the apathetic bunch too. :D

Social media amps up the pressure considerably nowadays (Look what happened to Roseanne. She was written out of her own show! )

Good point. I just hope "Picard" is good; the last teaser didn't do much for me but it's still a teaser. Though they were, along with nostalgia, selling the "hopeful future" aspect as well. That's not going to hurt. :)

This just seems to be the model for a lot of streaming shows. The Boys on Amazon was renewed for season 2 before season 1 aired, Amazon renewed the Expanse for seasons 4 and 5 before new episodes aired on its platform (not a new show but new as an Amazon show) I'm sure there are other examples on netflix, amazon, etc...

Rumors seem to have Season 2 starting production in March and season 3 filming back to back with it. I don't see why Picard wouldn't be more successful than Discovery, so if Discovery is getting 3 seasons I expect Picard will if the producers want it and Patrick is on board.

Isn't he stepping down so he can be the showrunner on a series based on one of his novels?

Ummm.... just to keep things clear ....

Biden Jr. was not a CEO, he use to be a member of the Board of Directors of a Utility Company.
Nor did he have any control over (or even a say in) the running of a Country.

If yer gonna throw chit like that out there, at least do it in the proper context.
(and remember that our current President has cornered the market and gone for the gold with blatent Cronyism)

Probably, but is this really the right place to talk about Jared Kushner?

Alright, I was wiling to let one drive-by political comment go, but if it's going to turn into this shit, take it to Miscellaneous or TNZ, people. This has nothing to do with Picard.

I'm delighted to learn that Chabon grew up in Columbia, Maryland. That's a few miles north of me; one of my daughters lives there now with her kids and husband.

Berman was always a smart dude.
Small world. I live down MD100 in Pasadena and lived in Columbia when I first relocated to MD.
