Internet Explorer 8 issue

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me out. At times I have a weird issue with Internet Explorer 8... for example, when I'm in google, and try and do a search, instead of searching, the screen freezes. For example it'll just stay on the main google screen with the keywords I typed in the search box and not do anything. I can close the window okay, so it's not an issue where it will cause permanent damage.

But does anyone know how to fix it permanently? I'm not sure what the cause is, although I do use traffic exchanges sometimes so I'm wondering if some of the sites on them cause to put some type of malware on my computer or something.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks :)

Searching from a toolbar "search" box or from an entry box in the main browser content pane?

Which OS and version are you using (include service pack levels)?

Do you have any alternate browsers like Firefox or Chrome installed to see if the problem ever occurs using them to visit that page? Has the problem ever occurred with other search engines?

If you do something else (on or off the computer) for a while and leave the tab with the search open will it eventually respond on its own?

Have you preformed scans on the computer to make sure no malware is installed or operating?

Have you opened the Windows Task Manager and used its various tabs to determine if Internet Explorer is using a large percentage of CPU clock cycles or if there's a lot of data flowing through your network connection?

Does the activity light(s) on your router or modem indicate a lot of network traffic during the delays?

I'm using Windows XP, and I only have the issue with Internet Explorer 8. I sometimes can fix it by deleting everything by going to the Tools section, but then sometimes it comes back anyways. That's why I was wondering if there was a permanent solution or am I going to have to deal with this all the time.

As I use Firefox exclusively, I can't say for sure, but wasn't IE8 developed for/with Win7?

Might not behave properly with XP, or even Vista.

I don't recall any reports that IE 8 is incompatible with Windows as Old as Windows XP SP3. Most programs will have installers that would refuse to function with an OS version that is too early. I wouldn't be suprised if IE insisted on at least some of the Windows XP service packs.

The cause of issues like this can be hard to identify. Sometimes things like the CPU cycle percentage indicators, network activity indicators (on routers, modems or in Task Manager) and even the messages about "connecting" or "done" in the browser status bar offer clues as to where the process is being stalled.

I've even had cases where the HTML code from the web site had been corrupted. While corruption could be the result of a problem on the site's server, the data stream could also get corrupted on one of the multiple relays between the server and your computer

I had that many problems with IE that I downloaded Firefox instead. Never had any issues since.

Well I thought it was maybe malware because I would use Spybot Search & Destroy and my Virus program to get rid of it, and IE8 would work fine. Then sometimes the problem comes back. What I do is search in google's seach bar on their website (not in the address bar or a toolbar, just regular searching) and at times it would just freeze. (Not the whole computer, just the particular screen that I try and search).

What happens is letters would get smaller and i would get a freeze-frame type shot of the screen and I can't do anything with it so I would have to go to Firefox to perform my search.
