Internet crash everyday like clockwork

Every single day like clockwork, my internet connection shits the bed around noon. If not noon then around 4 PM. I'll run diagnose and repair. It won't find anything wrong and then I'll run Norton, have it do a quick cursory test and some how or other it gets it's act together lets me on.

Strange thing is, I know when it's behaving badly when I click on Firefox and it'll take a couple seconds longer than usual to load up Google (my start-up page) but it will go to Google and perform searches but I can't click on any search results nor can I click on any of my bookmarks and have them load.

I'm running 64 bit Vista Ultimate OS. with service pack 1
Quad-core AMD Phenom 9750 @ 2.4 GHz
8GB RAM
1TB Hard drive
Cable modem broadband

Well there's your problem. Your computer is too new and high end for the internet. Your ISP's server is jealous and is trying to punish you for having a computer with more RAM and a faster CPU than it has. Trade computers with me and you shouldn't have any more problems. :)

Seriously, though, I don't know what is causing the problem, but this where I would start: My first thought is that this is probably a software issue on your computer. Why it happens at the same time every day makes me think that some other scheduled event may be interfering with your internet connection or browser. Do you have a defrag or virus scan or something else scheduled at that time? Do you have the same problem with all browsers, or just with Firefox?
 
In that case, look at what processes are running when it stops working and see if there's anything fishy there. Any new processes that start? Anything using a lot of memory or CPU time?

Does it begin working again after a while, or do you need to restart to get it to work again?

It's possible, though not likely, that it something at the other end of your connection. You could try taking your computer to a friend's house or somewhere else you can connect and see if it does the same thing there.
 
Maybe this is something your ISP is responsible for - they literally cut you off every day at noon and reset your connection?
 
They are reassigning you with a different IP or something like that - my own provider user to do it every day at 00:06.

They're doing it just for the lolz.

If I'm not kicked off within the next 90 minutes and have to re-start the modem this'll be the first day in more than a month when that doesn't happen!

I have no idea what's happening and my ISP has been totally silent about it; usually I can just take a look at their teletext page to see if something is going on -but no mention of anything out of the ordinary can be found there…
 
You really need to borrow a laptop or computer and test in your location during the outage time frame to determine whether its your PC or ISP that is the issue.
 
My local MSN server is getting crankier and crankier...can't confirm my account, all sorts of stuff like that...loading lockups, etc.
 
Sounds like a dodgy DHCP server setup to me. When the network starts acting cranky, try verifying that you still have a DHCP-assigned IP address (assuming you don't have a static address here) from the TCP/IP network properies for your network interface card, then performing nslookup from a cmd window to verify whether you can access the assigned DNS servers, and then do a tracert to a stable IP address (such as www.trekbbs.com: 67.225.136.218). If any of these fail, use the appropriate network interface properties option to get a new set of DHCP-assigned parameters (assuming that your NIC receives these directly from your ISP), or reboot your modem to rebind its network settings from the DHCP server.
 
Noon and 4pm!!! Thats when all the kids aren't in class!!! They're all online and the internet gets too much traffic. Happens all the time here. If you complain to your ISP, they won't admit its their end, but they'll probably open their system up secretly like they do here and your probably will mysteriously disappear (well, not so mysteriously ;) ) for a while. But thats probably what it is... nuisance that it is.

Well this is a Star Trek board after all. ;)

Vista supposedly has a feature diagnose network connection problems --I'm not sure how helpful it actually is but I very much doubt it would extend to analysing the performance of your network provider's service. It might be worth doing a web search to see if other people are having similar problems with your ISP.
 
My connection is pretty good, but sometimes by modem does decide to reboot itself. Now that may be the modem... it may be the ISP temporarily dropping the connection, forcing a reset... it may the the ISP renewing IP addresses. I'm tempted to think it's the middle choice.

If you believe it may be Vista / your system configuration, and you don't have another PC around... try booting into a linux live cd, (eg ubuntu), and see if your internet is as reliable on that. :)

I would guess that your ISP is providing you with a NAT DHCP internet address and the 'lease' is 4 hours meaning every 4 hours or so, it releases the address and gets another from it's DHCP pool address list. Most oof the time, this happens so fast, that you would either not, or barely notice it; but if it's taking more time, while it releases and renews, you loose connectivity to the net.
 
4 hours is a bit short for a lease time, even for an ISP. Releasing & renewing every 24 hours does however make more sense and I suspect this is what is happening (it'll be done by the ISP so you have no control over it). You could ask your ISP if they offer the option of having a static (fixed) IP address assigned to your connection - that'd probably sort the issue out but you'd probably have to pay extra for the privilege. I'd definitely check to see if you have the same problem with another PC first though (if that's possible) just to ensure it's not some odd problem with your hardware.
