Interior design of the Jellyfish

PluckyNinja

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
I just got back from my second viewing. When Kirk and Spock were in the Jellyfish, before Spock sits down we get a good view of the helm area. The view port is round. The chair is triangular. They come together to make an IDIC symbol. Sure the triangle in centred on the bottom but it seemed like a deliberate design choice. Very nice.

Dammit, I didn't notice this! I mostly saw the triangle chair and thought that didn't seem very comfortable.

Add it to the list of reasons to see the movie again! Darn.

At the moment when Spock first sits down the reflection in the circular view port is in itself circular.

So it's the circular reflection plus the chair that creates the IDIC symbol for a couple of seconds.

Nice design choice. The film seemed to have 100 or so similar nods to fans throughout.

I loved Spock's "fascinating" line, when he noticed the chair spinning.

Whilst that was a nice nod, was I the only one who felt that the interior of the Jellyfish looked a little too much like the interior of the Enterprise (well the bridge anyhow)? I had hoped that the design would be someone similar to the 24th Century style.

I thought that as well.

Triangular chair is niiiiice to have on a starship. Imagine it - inertial dampers fail for a split second and the backrest of your chair penetrates your chest from behind.

I think that would be illogical; it's commissioned by the Vulcan Science Academy after all, not Starfleet.

Seen the movie twice now and I didn't even notice it. Good eye! Guess, I was taken by Quinto as Spock and his eerie Nimoy-esque delivery of the word "fascinating."

It was but it was designed by
Geordi La Forge according to the tie-in comic Countdown.

It would have been really nice to give it some 24th Century LCARS and stuff as an acknowledgement of a huge era of Trek, now past.
Even Enterprise got a good nod...why not TNG?
