Intelligent sci-fi back on TV

I've been working hard with a talented group of people to create a new science fiction project for TV. We call our series Command Magellan.

We went live today due to the announcement of the Space Command project.

Our web site goes live latest May 11 (commandmagellan.com)

Hi. No, it's not Space Command, but I did not want anyone to thnk I copied their concept so I posted. I hope to have a web site within a week for those not on Facebook. The series concept is:

This series takes place at some point in the future.

Humans (Homo sapiens) and Locis (Genius loci, who have evolved from Homo sapiens) peacefully coexist on Earth. This is unusual since on most planets only one advanced species survives the evolutionary process.

Locis are telepathic, some with advanced telepathy, some less so. They are peaceful, simple people. One human has developed unusual telepathic abilities, and it is not known why.

The Locis are slowly dying of an unknown disease and a cure has not been found.

Long before the evolution of some humans into genes, humans gave up powered items, whether it be electrically powered, gas, nuclear, even solar. They discovered the peace of mind that comes from living a simple life offered more rewards. They rise at dawn and sleep whenever they are tired.

All forms of transportation have also mostly been given up. People walk where they need to go.

However, knowledge has not regressed in any way. The arts and sciences have advanced dramatically. Cities have been replaced by villages, and village planning has improved significantly.

Individual cultures and languages have survived. Chinese people are very Chinese. Italians are very Italian. Brazilians are very Brazilian. Even American Indians have restored their various cultures.

In this simpler, future era, there is no need for money. For work, people do what they love to do and what they are skilled at doing. Farmers farm. Bakers bake. Builders build. Village planners design villages. Artists create and perform. Theoretical physicists work in research labs. Starship designers design starships.

When power is required to fulfill a person’s work requirements, it is available in abundance.

But this is not a utopia. There are real threats and real dangers. The galaxy is populated with some advanced species. Many are peaceful, some are not.

There are mysterious forces emanating from the Psi quadrant. Sensors cannot probe the Omega quadrant, and probes sent there have never returned. The Phi quadrant has been fully explored and it is totally devoid of life. A massive energy source has been detected emanating from the Small Magellanic Cloud, and it is getting stronger.

On Earth, there are some humans and genes who refuse to play by the rules.

Magellan, the most advanced starship in Earth’s fleet, manned by humans, has been given the responsibility of representing Earth in a federacy of friendly planets in the Chi quadrant.

Their orders: Keep the peace, restore justice, help those in need, find a cure for the Locis, and explore the vastness of space...

Well, it doesn't sound much like the Space Command thing anyway. It does sound somewhat more original and less derivative than most such stuff (including my own project).

That's a well-imagined future, and one that I find mostly appealing-- I like that people are living simple, natural lives without giving up science or technology or exploration. It's got an Arthur C Clarke feel to it. :bolian:

Hi Legion, RJDiogenes,

I don't know much about the Space Command project. It sounds like they are going "retro" vs. my approach "classic sci-fi."

Thanks for the comments. For those not on Facebook, we have a web site now but it has only one image on it. Our web site manager is populating it with more images this week. You can find it at: commandmagellan.com

That waterfall is about an hour's drive north of Chiang Mai, Thailand. We are hoping to shoot at that location but film permits need to be sorted out first. It's going to look really great soon since the rainy season just started here. The picture you saw was taken at the tail end of the dry season.

If you need to know the exact location, I can find out for you.
Best, Duane Bruner
