'Insurrection' - visual effects

I just found this article today and haven't seen Star Trek: Insurrection - Special Collector's Edition Disc 2 yet which is in my Netflix Que as shipping out this week. I'm sure it is covered somewhat in the
'Making Star Trek: Insurrection' 25 minute featurette on Disc 2.

Insurrection climactic shot short article on visual effects.

I don't know what's on the d2 of INS, but all of that stuff is covered in nauseating detail in my old piece for CINEFEX on INSURRECTION, which runs on and on and on for something like 15,000 words. HGI's work is definitely a big plus, but there was also another miniature effort going on at the same time, involving a huge interior collector model (where Picard and badskinguy are) that was built and blown up by John Stirber over at BlueSky/VIFX. Ian and Sherry O'Connor did the rest of the pyro for the miniatures, and they had a real cottage industry on that going for a time. Look 'em up on IMDB and you'll see they did some right fine blowin' up.
