Insomnia Thread

Fortunately, mine is the "transient" type, brought on by working extra shifts and overnights, and made worse by having a new possible relationship-type-thing just beginning. I think.
This insomnia resulted last week in a near-hysterical laughing fit, complete with moments of stupor and twitching. Bonus points on the twitching.

What have you got? I know there are some insomniatic mofos up in here.

As for me, I'm going to try some meditation, but I've only 2 hours left before work. Will sleep tomorrow night, but then it's back to those overnight shifts Monday and Tuesday. If I can't sleep tomorrow (Sunday) night, things are going to get sketchy again.

I've suffered from insomnia most of my life, I think it's brought on by having to work different shifts. Your body just about gets used to one shift then suddenly your shift changes and your body ends up paying the price. It can sometimes take me as much as 1 and a half to 2 hours to finally get to sleep. Most of that time is spent tossing and turning, punching my pillows and moving up and down the bed.
In the end by the time i'm asleep i've to be up for work meaning I get more and more tired but even as I get more and more tired I still suffer from insomnia and can't get to sleep making the matter worse.
The only time my body gets to recuperate is on my days off because I get to have a lay in.

I'm awake cuz the hubby woke me up when he got home around 4am from a night of drinking and playing poker with his buddies.

...and I couldn't get back to sleep.

I usually play the game, "If I stay up late enough, it will be morning, and then I can go to the gym." My life revolves around the gym, and my current gym has really shitty hours, so I either have to go first thing in the morning or not at all. And I'll be damned if I'm going to wake up at 5am.

I'd rather just not go to bed until 8am when I get back.

I guess the closest for me is the Acute type. I can't sleep very well if I'm depressed, but mostly it's not really insomnia most of the time as it is the inability to get to sleep quickly.

Transient and onset insomnia. I've had it all my life, and is usually worse during times of anxiety or stress...even moderate anxiety and stress will bring it on, as in the past few days...I have to go back to work tomorrow after holidays, and I can't sleep! :scream:

Ditto. I don't deal with stress very well and I usually have plenty to go around. And I have been like this since I was three. I used to drive my mother crazy walking the floors all hours of the night. She used to have to lock me in my room to keep me from getting into things I shouldn't while she was sleeping. I still wander the house at night looking for things to get into. I just don't have to worry about mom locking me in anymore though.

But I have turned this pain-in-the-ass into a positive thing. I get a lot done at 3am. Actually most of my art projects (including my website and its various contents) were all done well past the witching hour.

It takes me while to get to sleep, and I wake up every couple of hours or so. But i manage to get back to sleep.
