A new news article has been published at TrekToday:

With COVID-19 putting the kibosh on in-person conventions, some events are being held online instead. According to TrekMovie, Coolwaters Productions’ InHouse-Con will...

An online convention is an excellent idea. I have only been to 1 convention and wasn't interested in going any more, but I will consider participating in an online one especially since the prices will be more reasonable.

This is actually really cool, especially since you can still get one on one time with the actor (albeit now you have to pay extra).
If I didn't see most of these actors last year at a local con, I absolutely would have been down for this. Still tempted.

Hannah Cheesman is an absolute delight. I'm just saying.

I've been to eight conventions from 1996 to 2014. Five for Star Trek, three for anime. To be brutally honest, other than meeting the actors or other behind-the-scenes people, I think they're basically over-sized flee-markets where you see some people in costume. Being a costume-wearer myself, I like the costumes. But, overall, I kept expecting the conventions to be more than what they ended up being for some reason.

The info panels are the most interesting stuff, IMO.

I keep thinking if I went to a convention these days (outside of Covid-19), I'd have to hold my tongue a lot. I'd get into a conversation with someone, then they'd say, "STD sucks! Look at what they did to Picard! SJWs! I won't pay for CBS All Access! TOS and TNG are the best! Orville is Star Trek now!" and then I'd be like, "Ooohhhhh!!!! Look at the time! I have to get going! It was so nice to meet you! Bye!!!" Then I'd walk off as fast as I could. If I ever go to a convention in the future, I'll wear a Disco T-shirt to repel those people away.

Most of those people you describe would be waaaaaaay too cowardly to express their views in real life the same way they do online. They are so virulent online purely because they can be faceless and there are no consequences. They would not have the testicular fortitude to walk up to Patrick Stewart or SMG and tell them how much they ruined Star Trek. They would fawn the fuck out over both of them and then crawl away to spin some made up story online about how SMG told them to get a life. All the while trying to sell the autographed photo they got on EBay.
