There is already a thread about this in Trek Lit, but with all of these various sci-fi franchises crossing over it seemed a thread in this forum would be appropriate as well.

Announcement here.

Excerpts

Running from January to April, "Infestation" will see one major threat from the IDW-native "Zombies vs. Robots" universe overwhelm the worlds of "Transformers," "G.I. Joe," "Star Trek" and "Ghostbusters." "Infestation" #1-2, bookending the event, will be written by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning (the writing team known collectively as DnA) and illustrated by "True Blood" artist David Messina. Abnett and Lanning will also write the February-shipping "Transformers: Infestation" #1-2 with artist Nick Roche, while "Star Trek: Infestation" #1-2, alternating weeks in February with "Transformers," are penned by Scott and David Tipton with art by Casey Maloney.

"Without giving too much away, I can say that we start in the IDW universe with a zombie outbreak of epic proportions. The threat is contained (or is it?), but not before it infests other realities - the realities of our licensed books," Waltz told CBR. "The individual series will show just how our intrepid heroes - folks like Optimus Prime, Dr. Peter Venkman, Mr. Spock, Baroness, and so many others - face down this new and obviously shocking threat, and their desperate efforts to stop it before it can completely consume - both literally and figuratively - their realities."

Other than the direct threat of zombie infestation itself, there will not be any crossover between the licensed titles, but "there is a surprise licensed-based crossover into the IDW universe in 'Infestation' #2," Waltz said. "But, that, as they say, is top secret."

My first thought upon hearing about this was "You've gotta be kidding me". But now that I've read their plans, I've gotta say that it sounds... fun. I think I'm in. :)

Yeah, it does sound terrible, but then again, DnA do great work. They've been awesome working on Marvel's cosmic stuff and I've always enjoyed their writing.

I think I could go the rest of my life quite happily without ever seeing Spock and Kirk exist in the same universe with Bumblebee and Optimus Prime.

Yet for some reason, The idea of the Ghostbusters existing in the Star Trek universe is fun, if not really needed.

Re: Infestation: xing over Trek, GIJoe, Ghostbusters,Transformers w/ID

How exactly would a zombie infestation threaten the Transformers anyway? :p

Based on the quoted blurb above, I don't think that's what IDW is doing. The zombies start in IDW's universe and they cross into the other realities. I don't think the licensed characters will ever interact because they don't exist in the same realities.

Zombies don't seem very Trekkian to me. And how would a zombie threaten a 20-foot robot?

IDW has already said that there won't be any interaction between the various properties, just a series of 2-issue minis set in each property's respective universe dealing with the threat from the IDW universe.

There were the Vulcan "zombies" in ENT S3.

As for how a zombie could affect a 20 ft robot, the IDW property invloved in the cross-over is a book called "Zombies vs. Robots", and apparently the ZvR robots are suseptable to the zombie virus as well.

Oh, well, it all makes sense, then! ;):guffaw:

Not interested. Should have learned years ago with the abysmal aforementioned Star Trek/X-Men crossovers that these simply do not work.

Re: Infestation: xing over Trek, GIJoe, Ghostbusters,Transformers w/ID

I'll keep an open mind, but I'm inclined to agree. I like Transformers, Star Wars, and Marvel as separate entities, but I'm generally not a huge fan combining either of the latter with the former. It's just silly beyond a reasonable level of disbelief.

I have to disagree with you about the first X-Men/Trek comic, which I actually found to be a lot of fun, and had this exchange...
Chapel: "Dr. McCoy?!?"

Beast and Bones: "Yes?"

:guffaw:

However, the 2nd comic and it's sequel in the Planet X novel were... less good. :cardie:
