The famous in-joke of Trek, 47. "The answer of the question of life"
It all started when TNG and VOY writer Joe Menosky attended Pomona College, where there was a club called "The 47 Society". The society claimed that all numbers equal to 47, and that the number appears in nature more than other numbers.
The first appearances of 47 was in the fourth season of TNG in Menosky's scripts. It spread everywhere in Trek after that.
