Incredible Golden-Age comics trove found in closet...

My Sister just sent me this story. Absolutely amazing. It's almost unheard of to find anything new from that era, let alone a whole collection. And it sounds like he's got some vintage games that are probably worth a mint as well.

Wow. I seriously cannot believe someone could just be sitting on that and not know what they have. I mean an Action Comics #1? A Detective Comics #27? I can't fathom how a person couldn't know the absolute mint that those are worth!

So some day my pile of 4,000 comics that I started collecting ion the 70s will be worth....

Bupkis, according to my comic shop lady.

I saw this on the news last night. When I saw they had both Action #1 AND Detective 27, I just about shit myself.

This sounds too good to be true, but it isn't. Sweet Zombie Jesus!

I was reading about this earlier; the collection really is remarkable by any measure, and the single owner provenance makes it even more extraordinary.

I know how you feel. I found the entire original run of Marvel Star Wars comics in the back of my closet a few years ago, and NOBODY wants them.

And according to MY comic shop guy, I'm sitting on $1,000.00, here.

Ironically, he wouldn't buy them.

Wow, ebay is all over all the map on them. I just did a quick search for ended items "Marvel Star Wars #1" and I see it being sold for anywhere from $5.50 to $59.95. #1 through #107 sold for $286.00. If you're interested in selling them, you might want to check into Ebay and look at the actual details of the auctions.

I hear you. I have 4000 or so myself and the only things a comic shop will buy is my Kirby 4th Worlds runs and a few individual issues of other stuff. On the other hand, back in the late 80s I paid my rent with original copies of Xmen 142-143 Days of Future Passed. Shame I don't have them now, though.

Simply amazing.
Not only does he have those key issues of Action and Detective, along with Captain America #2 he never mentioned he had them. He died in '96 so I have to believe he was culturally aware enough to know he might have something in that closet with those books. To make it even more fascinating is that he seems to have only had a window of 4yrs '38-'41 and only has 385 books. For a collection that small to have 4 big books Action #1, Detective #27, Batman #1 and Captain America #2 is simply astounding. Shame he didn't pick up All-Star Comics #8, first Wonder Woman, also a '41 book I think or More Fun Comics #73-Aquaman.
This man was buying books as DC was laying the foundation for a cultural phenomeneon.
Simply Amazing, makes you wonder what else might still be lurking out there doesn't?!

I have approximately 20,000, give or take a few thousand, and I'm not sure how much the entire collection might be worth.

I do have a few really good ones, though, like "Giant Size X-Men #1".

Yeah, that's only worth like, say, the price of a new car.
