In the Dune Saga, how is it possible that House Atreides apparently knows about ancient greece?

But not much about the later parts of human history, considering that it's set ten thousand of years in the future.

Considering that even in our time, we don't know so much about the myceneans and the minoans. And that they don't have a lot of knowledge about later parts of history.

It's been some years since I read the books. Someone can correct me. IIRC a lot of Atreides "lore" was based on Ancient Greek legends that had persisted. This is a book universe where Judaism had surived underground for over ten thousand years too. When Paul was able to access ancestral memories he did confirm it, though.

Of course, Reverend Mothers with Atreides lineage might have also known and said something. I think Herbert just didn't want to fill in millenia of backstory, opting to push the tale so far into the future that he could free himself from that as he chose.
