In sickbay...

Did anyone else notice the Dyson brand hand dryers in the back?

http://www.dysonairblade.co.uk/

It was one of those moments that just took my out of the movie for sec. Almost like the Gillette for women razor communicator they used in Phantom Menace... Or Riker's Joystick in Insurrection .

Where are the hand dryers in the picture? They are a cool sponsor; their vacuums are great. We have two.

Makes sence as it could sterilise your hands from germs without the need for conventional soap and water

When Bones brings Kirk into sickbay, he pops him on the bed frame right, McCoy's frame left and the hand dryer is plain as day in the middle. Product placement if ever there was.

I'll give it a look next time; thanks. I didn't notice. I was too busy watching the two eye candies.

Candy is in the eye of the beholder, I guess. Not to say I don't like neat technical gadgets.

Kirk: Spock! You're alive!
Spock: Indeed I am, Jim. However, were it not for the Ford F-150's powerful V-8 engine, it is doubtful I would have survived.

Scotty: How can we beam onto the Enterprise if we don't know where it is?
Kirk: Don't worry, I left my Apple iPhone 3G there, we can used it's GPS chip!
Scotty: That's genius. I think it deserves a celebratory drink. Budweiser anyone?
Kirk: Can I have a soco and lemonade?
Scotty: All I've got new Diet Coke with lemon and lime twist.
Kirk: Hey, that sounds nice!
Scotty: It is. It's the cool taste of summer, all year long.
Kirk: Right on bro.

It can be seen in the sickbay image here, a little left of center (it'll probably help to zoom in on it:

Thanks for the captures go to martin, who originally posted them a bit larger here.

Those dryers are pretty neat, I ran into a lot of similar ones when I was in Japan where consumer tech is about two and a half years ahead of the US...

I gotta say, though, if you've got attention to detail so good that you can spot that sort of thing, you could probably make mad money at some... really detail-oriented profession that I can't think of off the top of my head.

Bones: Luckily, Ford's financing is good enough to get anyone on the road. I'm a doctor, not a mechanic...but even I know that this extended warranty is nothing to sneeze at!

Didn't catch them in the movie, but got to use one at the Tom Bradly International Terminal at LAX when I passed through from my overseas flight. Although, I have to say that the Dyson dryer bears striking resemblance to those already in use at the Narita International Airport in Tokyo and in the 10 peso pay restrooms in Manila.

Did someone suggest this above, that this likely was a way for people to keep their hands sterile in Sick Bay? (In other words, the machines weren't the dryers they are in real life, but just looked like it, having a different function entirely?)

I've seen the movie 13 times, and never once noticed them.
