Importance of the Mission

I'm seeking some assistance...

I need to give a business presentation on the importance of a great mission statement. I would really like to use a clip from the original series when the Star Trek mission was used as the primary guide for a decision despite potential negative consequences (e.g. risk to the crew or the ship).

I have the complete original series on DVD and I'd like to draw on the forum members' knowledge to find the clips which best meet the above description.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

^ GNDN18 has pretty much nailed this first time. It was the first scene I thought of when I read the OP. :)

That scene was my first thought as well. The only other scene that springs to mind where Kirk expounds upon the mission of the ship during a tense situation like that would be his intercom address in "The Corbomite Maneuver".

There's a similar scene to the "risk is our business" in Season 3's "The Savage Curtain" that is a little more well-modulated.

Thanks The Old Mixer. There's a section immediately after Kirk's last intercom address in "The Corbomite Maneuver" where he references the mission when he decides to beam across to the alien ship. I'll keep looking for a clip with a bit more of the mission included, but I may be able to use the clip from this episode if I can't find anything further.

Also check out Kirk's address to the crew in The Immunity Syndrome. "Our orders do not say stay alive or retreat. Our mission is to investigate", etc.

How about augmenting the TOS opening litany and star field to "make it your own"

"ACME Consulting, Your Final Resource
This is the Mission Statement of the ACME Company
To Deliver Excellence in Product
To Seek Out New Business
To Boldly Go Where No Consulting Business Has Gone Before"

Then, show the clip or clips you have chosen.

A little lame and rough, for sure, but I think you get the picture.

Good Luck! :bolian:

P.S. If numbers and atmosphere are appropriate and your budget allows, perhaps consider giving everyone at the presentation a copy of "All I Need To Know I Learned From Star Trek."

Thanks for the book recommendation HIjol. I've ordered a copy and it's on its way to me now. I'll be able to use the book to identify clips for other presentation themes in the future.

Glad to have been of some help! Good Luck! :techman:

Maybe not quite what you are after but there is this from "Whom Gods Destroy"

Kirk: They were humanitarians and statesmen, and they had a dream, a dream that became a reality and spread throughout the stars, a dream that made Mr. Spock and me brothers.

Thanks to all the forum members who provided suggestions of the clips I could use. I completed the presentation and it was very well received by the team.

I ended up using The Old Mixer's suggestion from "The Corbomite Maneuver". This clip provided what I needed to convey the "importance of the mission" message to the team.
